The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) is a global research centre working to reduce poverty by ensuring that policy is informed by scientific evidence.
The Communications team at J-PAL South Asia at the Institute of Financial Management and Research (IFMR) seeks an Associate (Events) – Communications to contribute to its mission of promoting evidence-informed policy-making.
The Communications team works closely with the Research, Policy and Training verticals to set the external and internal communications agenda for J-PAL South Asia. This is an exciting year for J-PAL South Asia as it celebrates its 15 year-anniversary in the region, and 20th anniversary globally. We have planned a series of high-profile events and engagements throughout the year to mark the occasion.
This is a new and exciting position created specifically for candidates looking to start their careers in communications and comes with excellent opportunities for growth. The selected candidate will be working closely with leading academics as well as J-PAL South Asia’s government, NGO and funding partners, and will have the opportunity to recast J-PAL South Asia’s events into powerful tools to advance, enhance, and elevate its communications output.
The ideal candidate should have excellent writing skills, have a flair for design, and can think of creative ways to talk about J-PAL South Asia’s work. They will be working closely with the Senior Communications Manager as well as senior colleagues from other verticals.
This position is based out of New Delhi.
The Associate will be responsible for:
Communications and Event production
- Collaborate with senior Policy, Research and Training team staff members to plan, execute and promote J-PAL South Asia’s flagship events
- Lead the development and distribution of marketing and promotional materials for events
- Develop creative and engaging post-event collaterals that spur interest in J-PAL South Asia’s work
- Support the Communications team in developing social media campaigns to promote J-PAL South Asia’s events as well as its research and policy insights
- Work closely with J-PAL Global at MIT to create bespoke design products
- Support the Communications team in executing its internal communication strategy
Project Management and Metrics Tracking
- Support the Training Manager in curating and organizing J-PAL South Asia’s mailing lists
- Develop and track metrics to measure progress of J-PAL South Asia’s events and broader communications output, and suggest improvements
- Work closely with multiple team members in a collaborative manner to accomplish communications goals
- Proactively support and suggest process improvements to meet events, communications as well as broader organizational goals
Qualifications
- Strong communication
- Strong writing
- Highly organized
- Excellent project management
- Familiarity with randomised evaluations and development policy issues will be an advantage
- Previous event management experience will be a huge plus
- Facility with webinar tools and mass-mailing softwares
Education
Has completed a Master’s degree in communications, journalism, advertising or public relations. A degree in development policy, economics or public policy will be a big plus.
