Fortify Health is an NGO with a team of dedicated entrepreneurs working to improve nutritional status at population scale through fortification, a recognised, effective public health intervention. We work to  tackle anaemia and birth defects by supporting fortification of wheat flour with iron, vitamin B12, and folic acid. We support millers willing to adopt fortification by making it cost-neutral to them, and we work with state governments to expand fortification in social safety net programs and on the open market. Complementing our entrepreneurial model, we provide nutrition training, career development opportunities and a wide range of resources to guide the team. 

Fortify Health’s model addresses micronutrient deficiencies through work with industry partners, NGOs and state governments. Maintaining collaborative relationships with our partner mills is essential, and ensuring smooth implementation of fortification in mills, is essential to successfully achieving Fortify Health’s important goals. The Junior Program Officer will manage the day-to-day implementation of fortification in our partner mills in the Hyderabad cluster, and support Program Officers on any technical work for potential partner mills in the area. 

Position overview

The Junior Program Officer will be based in Hyderabad. They will assist the Program Officer leading mill partnerships in the Hyderabad cluster team in implementing fortification in partner mills. This includes equipment testing and installation, support with R&D and monthly calibration. They will collaborate regularly with the Monitoring and Evaluation and Regulatory Affairs teams at Fortify Health, and provide additional support to these teams when required. 

They will have a base of knowledge about the milling industry and milling technology, to facilitate fortification successfully in mills. They have the exciting opportunity to bring their own unique experience into this role, as they will be joining a young and innovative  Program team and will be an essential part of Fortify Health’s growth. They will initially report to Fortify Health’s Program Officer leading mill partnerships in the Hyderabad cluster.

Responsibilities and activities

  • Conduct monthly visits to our mill partners in the Hyderabad region to ensure smooth technical implementation of fortification 
  • Set up installation of dosing equipment and its calibration in the partner mills with support from mill staff and Program Officer
  • Collaborate regularly with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to ensure that their findings are used to improve operations
  • Assist the Program team with in maintaining partnerships and rapport with partner mills, particularly those based in or near Bhopal
  • Conduct monthly visits to the partner mills to check and troubleshoot calibration and performance of dosing equipment 
  • Coordinate essential visits of Fortify Health’s technical consultants and programs team
  • Ensure work is well-documented
  • Work alongside others in the organisation to ensure mill partnerships are transitioned smoothly across different team members when necessary
  • Actively participate in team calls and meetings

Requirements

  • Experience / background in the milling industry, with a good technical understanding of mill setup and machinery
  • Bachelors or higher degree in related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially relating to partnership management of millers and vendors
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to work effectively on multiple projects
  • Good documentation skills
  • Strong creative problem-solving, teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel around 60% of the time (this includes within base location)
  • Willingness to relocate to and work in Hyderabad
  • Authorisation to work in India (Indian national, eligibility for OCI, etc.)
  • Fluency in Hindi 
  • Professional fluency in English
  • Ability to verbally communicate in Telugu

Terms of employment: Contract for one year, renewal by mutual agreement
