Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Project Manager in carrying out project activities – particularly focusing on the planning, designing, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the project’s interventions and results. 
  • Draft terms of reference and concept notes through discussion and consultation with the Project
  • Manager, relevant colleagues and Decent Work Team-Delhi Specialists.
  • Provide support in procurement process, support and provide guidance to national and international consultants.
  • Ensure effective coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist in the programming and control of resources of the project, prepare budget estimates and expenditure forecasts by analysing and monitoring situation of resources as compared to planned activities and making recommendations for remedial action. Identify problems, propose solutions and actions.
  • Oversee and ensure the effective functioning of project activities assigned to her/him, so as to meet the targets of the project.
  • Undertake the preparation and conduct of conferences, seminars, workshops, training sessions, and consultative meetings.
  • Represent the project in Chennai and speak on behalf of the Project in the absence of the Project Manager.
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day interlocutors for the Project with constituents in Chennai.
  • Undertake missions to project sites independently or accompanying others.
  • Brief ILO specialists, consultants and visiting officials and provide relevant information on project matters.
  • Draft, edit, or translate into local language official correspondence, statements and speeches and other public information materials.
  • Support the project team to regularly interact with key stakeholders including Government, Employers’ and Workers’ organizations, and relevant enterprises in the implementation of project interventions.   
  • Support the project team in following-up with relevant departments at headquarters, DWT-Delhi, Country Office, executing agencies, government offices, constituents and other organizations to expedite implementation and meet targets.
  • Provide programming and administrative support to the project in areas of responsibility.

General responsibilities

  • Prepare briefs, background information, and statistical data on status of project activities.
  • Assemble and edit basic data required for planning and negotiation of programme/project activities, considering different approaches and alternative methods for project design, management, problem identification and problem resolution. Follow-up on delayed documents, clarify information, and answer questions about clearance and processing requirements.
  • Draft in, or translate into, local language(s) news releases, official correspondence, training material and other relevant project information material.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Project Manager.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • University degree in labour relations, public administration, public policy development, social sciences, industrial engineering or related qualification.

Experience

At least two years of national level project experience. Ability to build relationships with and navigate different priorities of relevant stakeholders. Proven experience in working effectively with the tripartite constituents is required. ILO experience in the relevant field will be an advantage. Experience in training, capacity building, research and decent work in the electronics manufacturing supply chains will be an advantage.

Languages

Excellent command of English and Tamil.
