Roles and responsibilities
● Leading the Department & Team:
- Own and be accountable for running the department and team seamlessly in collaboration with other verticals towards the organization’s vision.
- Collaboration with other team leads to understand the trend and design synchronized goals and objectives to achieve for the SEN team.
● Supporting School Teams: - Building awareness and understanding in school-based educators around SEN and the most effective approach towards supporting students
● Communication & Team Collaboration: - Make sure there is timely communication with school leaders, IS subject specialists, classroom teachers in order to monitor the progress of students receiving support.
- Support the team to facilitate opportunities for the student’s voice or view on their needs to be heard
● Program Development: - Identify resources and material required for the program.
- Manage the department budget
● Progress Monitoring: - Make use of school wide data to monitor student progress.
- Review quarterly reports on students receiving learning support
● Central team support & collaboration: - Create systems and spaces for special educators to collaborate with other stakeholders.
- Build awareness and plan sessions for the central team regarding inclusion, UDL, different learning needs and differentiation.
- Updating the central team with the government documents with regards to children with disabilities.
- Planning and collaboration between the city special educators team.
- Coordinating with the outside stakeholders and agencies.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
● Deep belief and commitment towards Akanksha’s vision and mission
● Masters in Special Education or a recognized postgraduate qualification in SEN with RCI registration
● SEN teaching experience of at least 5 years; 2-3 years of relevant managerial experience
● Confidence, knowledge and experience working with children with specific learning disabilities and children from diverse cultural backgrounds
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills
● Willingness to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities
● Fluency and accuracy in written and spoken English
● Computer skills at a level that permits the creative and effective use of technology in and outside the classroom
● Strong leadership skills
● Should be someone who is strategic, creative, energetic and resilient and has managed diverse stakeholders
● Problem-solving, decision making and outcomes management
● Prior experience in managing / coaching teams of special educators (highly preferred)
● Work experience in an NGO within the last 5 years (preferred)
