**About India Climate Leaders**

The India Climate Leaders (ICL) program focuses on empowering and cultivating climate leaders among high-net-worth individuals in India.  The ICL program aims to direct funds towards climate priorities aligned with India’s ambitious mitigation targets and development goals, while advocating for increased climate funding and integrated action. The ICC serves as an advisor to these India Climate Leaders, offering its services without charge and without pooling grant capital. Funds flow directly from philanthropists to climate solutions and organizations.

**Philanthropy Advisor**

The Philanthropy Advisor plays a crucial role within the ICL team, guiding and advising philanthropists. This strategic position involves proactively attracting new donors to climate initiatives, engaging them meaningfully, and developing strategies to ensure their contributions support the climate sector’s needs for speed and scale.

The Philanthropy Advisor will be responsible for managing high and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, collaborating closely with the climate intelligence team within ICL to identify and direct their funding towards impactful climate action.

This is a demanding but rewarding role requiring a passion for the transformative potential of philanthropy in addressing the climate crisis. You will be a champion for the climate sector, a trusted advisor to philanthropists, and a key player in mobilizing millions of rupees towards climate action in India.

**Key Responsibilities**

* Develop and implement strategies to engage new donors in funding climate solutions, including evaluating key networks and opportunities to inspire families of means to prioritize climate action.

* Collaborate cross-functionally to design and develop engaging content and strategies for philanthropy-focused events and experiences, attracting new donors to climate.

* Design and execute innovative and comprehensive donor cultivation plans, fostering philanthropic learning and action on climate for assigned donors and prospective donors.

* Conduct thorough research to understand potential donors, including their priorities, philanthropic styles, and giving preferences.

* Partner with colleagues specializing in climate intelligence to source impactful ideas for philanthropists, such as targeted giving to specific regions or integrated climate issues like food systems.

* Create and manage engaging materials to support donor cultivation, including tailored resources for new philanthropists, presentations, proposals, letters of inquiry, meeting agendas, portfolio materials, and special events.

* Guide and support assigned philanthropists through a structured learning process, from their initial gift to fully scaled climate giving. This could include facilitating learning sessions, assisting with portfolio creation, connecting them with peer ambassadors, and defining key criteria and touchpoints.

* Coordinate and track activities, proposals, commitments, and reports using the ICC’s donor engagement database (Salesforce). Utilize and contribute to the ICC’s knowledge management system for climate solutions.

* Foster philanthropists’ long-term commitment to climate philanthropy while maintaining professional relationships and visibility with key donor and partner NGO networks. Mobilize these networks to identify new donors and scale their climate giving.

* Collaborate with the ICL team to develop and implement annual strategies aligned with yearly and five-year goals, continuously iterating and learning.

**Required Skills and Experience**

* 10+ years of relevant experience in non-profit organizations, climate consulting, policy research, or field-based/implementing organizations.

* Demonstrated expertise in principal development work or donor advising, with proven success in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding eight-figure gifts from philanthropists, especially ultra-high-net-worth donors.

* A strong track record of exceptional interpersonal skills, relationship-building expertise, and convening capabilities.

* Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, coupled with a persuasive and attentive approach.

* A strategic mindset with the ability to analyze information, translate priorities into actionable plans, and anticipate challenges.

* Prior experience working with customer relationship management systems is a plus, as is previous experience in the climate sector.

**Personal Traits and Competencies**

* Ability to influence without relying on authority, and to implement complex strategies with agility.

* A collaborative and respectful work style, coupled with the confidence to make independent decisions.

* High emotional intelligence and the ability to approach challenging conversations with empathy and grace.

* Patience, a strong learning mindset, and a willingness to encourage a similar approach in others.

* A strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity, and a good sense of humor.

* Deeply mission driven and passionate about climate action.

* Enthusiasm for building and thriving in ambiguous environments.
