**Job Description:**

 

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the World Bank’s efforts in improving access to and quality of education and skills development outcomes in the South Asia Region, with a focus on India. As an Education Economist, you will play a crucial role in:

 

* Contributing to economic, financial, and analytical work carried out by the team, focusing on learning recovery and emerging areas of importance in the sector.

* Devising technical and policy advice to enhance education and skills development outcomes, promoting evidence-based decision-making.

* Building synergies across sectors to leverage education and skills development for equitable and resilient growth in India.

* Reviewing and contributing inputs to documents on behalf of the sector team.

* Supporting policy dialogue and interactions with government authorities, development partners, and civil society organizations.

* Supporting the design and development of new projects, providing implementation support for clients, and monitoring project performance.

* Preparing Implementation Completion Results Reports of closed projects.

* Delivering individual tasks as assigned and leading the delivery of the work program.

* Contributing to the Human Capital Project and Learning Poverty initiatives.

* Applying global and regional best practices and lessons learned to promote education system strengthening, enhance institutional accountability, and improve inclusive access to high-quality learning and skills development.

 

**Selection Criteria:**

 

* Master’s degree in economics, education, or a relevant field.

* 5 years of relevant professional experience.

* Experience in quantitative research and analytical work in education or the social sectors.

* Demonstrated ability to think and work across sectors.

* Ability to integrate divergent viewpoints of stakeholders into coherent projects/programs/strategies.

* Strong political judgment, diplomatic acumen, and negotiating skills.

* Excellent English writing and speaking skills, with high proficiency in public speaking (a must).

* Proven ability to build and sustain key stakeholder relationships with government and other stakeholders.

* Demonstrated ability to guide clients and development partners in establishing priorities, identifying key operational issues, and developing optional solutions.

* Deep understanding of the policymaking process in India and the role of education expertise within that process.

* Ability to guide research efforts and translate technical and cross-country knowledge into practical applications for country and sector strategies and discussions with clients and development partners.

* Proven ability to mentor junior and support staff.
