TITLE: Senior Manager Research
LOCATION: Bangalore or Mumbai preferred. Other locations: Delhi, Hyderabad
PURPOSE: The Senior Manager Research will oversee organization’s research function, setting the research agenda, producing high quality research publications, and increasing our voice within the youth development, mentorship spaces in India and globally.
Experience: Overall 8 to 10 years of relevant social sector experience, with a minimum of 4 years in research roles.
Qualification: A Master’s degree in Social Work, Youth Development, Psychology, or related fields. A preference for those that hold doctoral degrees.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Setting research agenda and preparing research project plans [30% of time]:
- Formulating Mentor Together’s research agendas by reviewing internal priorities and external research and evidence.
- Preparing annual plans for Mentor Together’s research agenda, through collaboration and consultative exercises across the organization
- Preparing detailed quarterly project and work plans to achieve the research goals
- Lead preparation and submission of proposals for different research grants
Research design, data collection, analysis, & writing [30% of time]
- Lead the design of research studies, including identifying research questions and deciding data collection methods and tools.
- Manage surveyors or any other external groups involved in research programs.
- Participate in data analysis and report writing.
- Provide oversight and review to research outputs from members of the Research team.
Dissemination & communication of research [30% of time]
- Prepare the plans for dissemination of research across a range of mediums.
- Lead and contribute to knowledge creation, capacity building and dissemination within the organization and externally by writing papers, reports, articles, blogs to disseminate research outcomes.
People management [10% of time]
- For direct reportees, actively monitor, review, and provide feedback on all supervisee’s work products, providing additional training and support where necessary. For direct supervisees working on assignments for other teams, liaise closely with assignment supervisors to ensure consistent feedback is provided and acted upon.
- Take a proactive role in staff development, including working with supervisees to identify professional development opportunities; provide consistent on-the-job coaching and/or regular coaching sessions as appropriate to advise on core competencies, and general work skills and behaviors.

Research synthesis
- Ability to review and synthesize a range of academic papers around program factors that drive greater mentoring impact
- Ability to write comprehensive literature summaries that serve as the basis for program benchmarks
Data analysis
- Ability to analyze program quantitative data arrive at trackers for current performance
Strong writing skills
- Ability to breakdown a process into its components and understand how it can be done effectively
- Ability to write down the steps to doing a process effectively in clear and simple language
Communicating effectively
- Strong training skill sets to impart skills around how to do a process effectively
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with a range of learning styles in a collegial and effective manner
