Internship Opportunity – Research Intern – Sustainable Food Systems at CEEW in New Delhi

Purpose: 

We seek to hire an Intern to support our work in climate policy analysis for three months, with a particular focus on agriculture and allied sector policies for States like Rajasthan and Maharashtra.

Job Summary

CEEW seeks to hire a suitable candidate for a full-time Intern position in the Sustainable Food Systems team to support the existing capacity for policy research and analysis. The successful applicant will assist the team members primarily in undertaking robust qualitative analysis and conducting quantitative analysis if required. Since this is a full-time internship, we highly prefer those candidates who can dedicate 7-8 hours daily to this assignment. In addition to the duties and responsibilities outlined below, the candidate should be prepared, as and when necessary, to take on additional responsibilities and respond to events and developments that cannot be anticipated easily.

Job duties and accountabilities 

Primary responsibilities 

Research

  • Conduct research, analyse literature and write relevant technical content related to agriculture and food system policies, focusing on climate action (mitigation and adaptation), sustainability, resilience and environmental management at the state level.
  • Conduct literature reviews through specific methods and frameworks – scoping reviews, and systematic literature reviews.
  • Analyse content using appropriate qualitative tools (e.g. N-VIVO, MS Excel, etc.), and present the analyses in a coherent narrative in different formats.
  • Assist with online research on the requested policy documents through keyword searches and collecting, organising, properly filing, and storing them.
  • Conduct policy impact evaluation for sectoral policies based on innovative frameworks.
  • Keep abreast of the policy measures being adopted/implemented by the respective State governments and their implementation status related to sustainable agriculture and food systems in India.
  • Support stakeholder meetings, focus group discussions, and meetings through participation and notetaking, synthesising information to develop meaningful recommendations.
  • Independently maintain and manage research databases efficiently for the team members to capitalise on them further.
  • Attend team events and meetings and maintain notes of all sessions (presentations, discussion, exercises) during the event.
  • Contribute to preparing communication materials – policy briefs, technical reports, case studies, and thematic stories on behalf of the assignment.
  • Any other tasks, as requested by the supervisor

Selection Criteria

Education

Master’s degree in agriculture/agroecology/agricultural economics/developmental economics/natural resource management//public policy/food systems/nutrition/econometrics/consumer behaviour or any other relevant field for food system transformation.

Main skills

  • Analytical skills and knowledge of mixed methods – qualitative and quantitative research methods, relevant for policy impact evaluation, food system analysis, political economy analysis etc. 
  • Familiarity with handling qualitative literature review and analysis software (for example, N-VIVO) is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of and/or demonstrated interest in policies aimed at climate change, agriculture and allied sectors, sustainable resource management, food security and consumer trends, etc., would be a strong advantage.
  • Good communication and time management skills, ability to work in a team.
  • Experience dealing with stakeholders (farmers, grassroots workers, government, etc.)
  • High aptitude in using Microsoft Office software
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required for this assignment.
