About SEWA

Self Employment Women’s Association is a movement of women workers in the informal economy, working towards self reliance and full empowerment. Over 48 years, 2.1 million women in India across 18 states have become members of this decentralised, grassroots movement. SEWA Bharat is the National Federation of all SEWA Organisations. Its objective is to expand the movement across India and to support individual SEWAs in their journey towards autonomy.

SEWA members have promoted over 160 collectively-owned social enterprises over 50 years of its existence. SEWA Bharat has set up a Women’s Enterprise Support System (WESS) to help these social enterprises scale, become sustainable and to engage with policymakers and private sector players on how to create a more enabling environment for grassroots women entrepreneurs and collective social enterprises.

Scope of Work & Tasks

1. Support in creating visibility for enabling women’s economic empowerment through collective social enterprises and micro-entrepreneurship

● Draft position papers/op-eds/policy notes/reports based on SEWA Bharat’s experience on women’s entrepreneurship

● Represent/support representatives from SEWA Bharat in advocacy events, speaking engagements, stakeholder meetings to disseminate SEWA Bharat’s learnings built through its intervention supporting women’s entrepreneurship

2. Support liaising with stakeholders such as government, private sector, philanthropic institutions, multilateral organisations, etc.

● Draft letters, proposals, concept notes to engage stakeholders

● Create presentations or documentation to engage with stakeholders, as and when required

● Identify stakeholders, ensure consistent follow ups and manage relationships on behalf of SEWA Bharat

3. Support conceptualisation and organising of advocacy events

● Support conceptualisation and lead execution of advocacy events like webinars, roundtable discussions, workshops etc related to women’s collectives enterprises

● Identify and finalise speakers and guests, develop concept notes, agendas, plan logistics for the event organising and post event follow ups

● Cross coordinate with multiple teams such as research team for advocacy outputs and communications team for events

4. Other tasks

● Maintain a database of SEWA Bharat’s advocacy engagements relating to women’s entrepreneurship

● Collate information on government programmes and schemes that can be utilised WESS supported enterprises; further support the enterprises in the application process

● Identity funding opportunities and draft proposals on behalf of WESS and its cohort of enterprises

Qualifications and skills

1. Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Gender Studies, Public Policy, Development Studies, Law

2. 0-4 years of work experience in public policy, advocacy, partnerships and/or government relations

3. Interest in issues relating to women’s entrepreneurship

4. Ability to analyse, synthesise complex information

5. Excellent written and oral communication skills

Compensation & Location

● Compensation according to industry standards & commensurate with experience

● The full-time role will be based in New Delhi with an expectation to travel upto 10 days per month
