Swaniti Initiative aims to strengthen public service delivery by working with state and local governments across South Asia with a strong focus on India. Our interventions have included strengthening scheme implementation by identifying current gaps and limitations, providing research support to Hon’ble Members of Parliament about best practices in moving forward, and developing data-technology tools that can back decision-making processes. With flagship initiatives like Supporting Parliamentarians in Analysis and Research in Constituencies (SPARC) and Leadership and Engagement Associate in District (LEAD), Swaniti has supported constituency development and district development planning in various parts of the country. At present, along with working with 200+ Hon’ble Members of Parliamentarians for policy making, are working as advisors to state governments to ensure the delivery of schemes to the last mile. Major verticals of our work are climate and sustainability, social protection, and livelihood.

What will you work on?

The associate will primarily work on topic of energy transition and climate policy. S/He will monitor primary data collection in Mancherial and Peddapalli districts. The work will also involve procuring secondary data from the state government, coal companies, and other stakeholders. S/He will work closely with the Swaniti team on the energy transition and economic diversification. S/He need to engage with the communities in the different phase of the study. Additionally, the associate needs to do data cleaning and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data collected. S/He may be required to present his analysis at different forums for wider discussion and dissemination.

What will be your roles and responsibilities?

  • Design, collect data, and conduct research studies across Telangana on energy transitions, climate change, and economic development.
  • Assisting Swaniti’s research and public engagement work on energy transitions, climate change, and economic development in Mancherial and Peddapalli District
  • Assisting the team in research designs, applying qualitative and quantitative research skills(including GIS skills), and helping in the research report writing
  • Occasionally required to travel to other locations in India.
  • Work with and supervise interns and surveyors to produce research, conduct field surveys, and facilitate their professional development.
  • Assist in designing and conducting a study on the economic diversification of coal-dependent districts in Telangana.
  • Liasoning with the State government, district administration, coal company, Trade union, and state government(including District administration) officials to procure secondary data.
  • Collaborate with Swaniti’s teams to gather necessary data for the study.
  • Present study findings at various forums for wider discussion and dissemination
  • Any other work as per the requirement of the organization.

Qualifications required

  • Bachelor’s/Masters’ in Economics, Development Studies, Social Sciences,

Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • Aptitude for data, project management, government liasoning commitment to social enterprise, understanding the ground & and connecting with people.
  • Language skills involve English and Telugu (spoken and written). Ready to relocate to either of the two districts (Mandatory)
  • Knowledge of the coal ecosystem in the state, though not necessary.
