Position Overview:

Reporting to the Assistant Controller the Associate Director, Accounting is responsible for managing processes related to cash management, Accounts Payable and related accounts, fixed assets, month-end and year-end close, Gifts-in-kind, consolidated global audit, tax returns and special projects as needed. This position is responsible for coordinating with worldwide Finance and Legal team and non-accounting staff regarding month-end close and other matters.

Based in the Delhi office, this role manages two accounting team members with one position based in the US and the other based in Delhi. This position would require frequent interactions with colleagues in countries where Room to Read has either a fundraising or programmatic presence.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Month-end and Year-end Close

  • In collaboration with the Assistant Controller and the Global Office Accounting team, ensures accurate and timely global month-end and year-end accounting close and reports worldwide consolidated data for Room to Read’s global accounts. Develops analytical reports for management review.
  • Maintains and reconciles the general ledger, reviewing account balances and transactions to identify and resolve discrepancies and ensure consistency of data across various systems.

Treasury Function and Cash Management

  • Coordinates and reviews cash management/ Treasury Management needs with the global offices and country offices. Ensures effective review of payment requests and approvals.
  • Oversees the accounts payable cycle of global offices and ensures compliance with organizational policies. Reviews and posts expense reimbursements and credit card payments. Ensure adequate checks and balances are built in the payment process.  Develops efficiencies by leveraging technology (Procure to Pay Automation).

Systems & Technology

  • As a super user of the General Ledger system (Sage Intacct), trains new employees, leads process improvements by exploring and using new features of Sage Intacct and ways to integrate with other software. Leads the monthly systems admin meetings and tracks action. Performs Sage Intacct Admin roles.
  • Participates as a member of the Technology team leading key digital automation projects in Finance and Legal team. (Including Procure to Pay Automation)

Audit and Taxation

  • Supports the Controller/ Assistant Controller during the Consolidated global audit of Room to Read and leads on specific areas and liaises with the external auditors.
  • Prepares the annual tax Form 990 and international tax forms.

Others

  • Leads the Gifts-in-Kind accounting: Collaborates with the Development and Program Operations teams to review and plan for annual goals; provides guidance on accounting rules regarding valuation and supporting documentation, verifies and coordinates with the Field Finance and
  • Accounting team for matters related to the country offices.
  • Supervises, trains and guides team members in their work. Takes initiatives to reassign and delegate work as needed.
  • Other duties as required and assigned by the Assistant Controller ​ or Controller.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of relevant work experience, preferably some with an international non-profit organization
  • Proven supervisory experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Comfortable communicating using email, MS Teams or other internet-based systems.
  • Adept at using MS Office suite applications.
  • Proficiency in using cloud based global accounting software or ERP system.
  • Results and detail oriented, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, accurate, and highly organized
  • Prior success of working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization
  • Openness to exploring new technology and applying them to enhance operational efficiencies.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Sage Intacct, Nexonia and Workday
  • Passion for mentoring and possessing capacity building skills.
  • Sound knowledge of US GAAP
