India Leaders for Social Sector (ILSS) is a nonprofit that aims to be India’s preeminent leadership development organization for the social sector. We aim to strengthen the social sector through talent infusion and upskilling programs, in order to create catalytic impact at scale.

Overview

In order to achieve the mission, ILSS has a 3 pronged approach:

  • Bringing talent from across sectors into leadership and board positions in the social sector
  • Running research-backed skillbuilding programs in key domains for the social sector,
  • Strengthening the social sector ecosystem to instill a strong focus on high- quality talent/talent development.

Since 2017, ILSS has run successful programs like:

  • 11 hybrid (in-person and online) Leadership Programs, designed to enable senior leaders from various sectors to make informed transitions into the social sector. The program currently has 200+ Alumni out of which 110+ have already transitioned to the social sector.
  • A Fundraising Program in with over 80+ Alumni, and growing
  • An upcoming People Practices Program for social sector leaders to retain, attract, and grow talent for their organizations
  • An upcoming Board Program for CXOs in the corporate sector to serve as board members for social impact organizations

Position Summary

ILSS is looking to hire an Associate Director to lead the Research and Knowledge function. We are looking for a committed and collaborative individual, who will work in a highly dynamic environment with a closely-knit, highly motivated and entrepreneurial team. Hence, it is an amazing opportunity for individuals who are passionate about working in the social impact space.

Job Location – Delhi-NCR

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the AD – Research and Knowledge will be as follows:

  • Facilitate knowledge/database building at an organisational level on the following:The top 300-500 nonprofits in the country (by annual expenditure, staff strength, board strength, leadership team, geography, domain)
  • The top 100 CSRs (with details of the board, team, spend)
  • Top Foundations (international and family foundations)
  • Analysis of sector demand, funding sources, institutional assessment trends
  • Making a case for the demand in the social sector (building case studies, insights, knowledge bank content to raise the profile of ILSS).
  • Lead research projects which build key insights around the issues facing social sectors in terms of capabilities. E.g.:Periodic surveys to rate employee satisfaction in social sector
  • Cross SPO studies on giving trends and fund raising
  • Studies on digital adoption and changing need for it
  • Board survey
  • Create and publish reports based on own research as well as through external collaboration and also share with relevant audience across the social system ecosystem on relevant issues for ILSS…for example:How to bridge talent gaps in social sector
  • How to make successful transition from corporate to social sector
  • Promoting diversity in social sector

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent research skills – ability to frame a problem and identify qualitative and quantitative sources of data to detail it
  • Ability to convert research data into insights
  • Excellent written communication – ability to produce high quality documents in power point as well as long format
  • Strong organizational, reporting and analytical skills.
  • Sensitivity and responsiveness to all partners, respectful and helpful relations with all stakeholders.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree from a high quality institution
  • 8-12 years of experience in driving research projects, creating knowledge products and publishing findings
  • Experience of building/leading a small team

Compensation

Depending on the candidate’s experience, ILSS offers compensation that is at par with 7Indian philanthropy pay scales.
