**About Room to Read:** Room to Read is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of children in developing countries through literacy and gender equality in education. They work to improve literacy and create a culture of reading among children, particularly girls.
**Job Location:** Giridih district, Jharkhand, India. The position will be based in one of the allocated blocks within the district and requires frequent travel to field locations.
**Job Summary:**
The Program Associate (Technical and Operations), Foundational Literacy will oversee project implementation and lead system strengthening efforts at the district and block levels in Giridih, Jharkhand, India. This role involves coordinating trainings, monitoring program quality, and collaborating with government officials and school staff to improve literacy programs. The position reports to the District Project Lead and will run until March 2026.
**Responsibilities:**
* **Program Planning, Management & Implementation:** Oversee project implementation, ensuring timely and efficient execution within budget guidelines. Lead online and offline trainings for various stakeholders. Support strategic planning and advocacy efforts.
* **Technical Expertise & System Strengthening:** Stay updated on relevant government policies and programs. Participate in workshops on material and training module development. Support system strengthening efforts with district-level officials and DIETs. Provide technical support to Cluster Resource Persons (CRPs). Contribute to policy-level discussions. Represent Room to Read in relevant forums.
* **Supervision & Reporting:** Conduct regular monitoring visits with government officials. Collect and analyze field data, submitting weekly and monthly reports. Identify and address program implementation issues.
* **Research and Monitoring:** Collaborate with the Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation (RME) team. Analyze data and write summary reports. Identify key issues related to program quality.
**Qualifications and Experience:**
* Bachelor’s Degree in education, social sciences, or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.
* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the education sector and/or research.
* In-depth knowledge of language, reading practices, and approaches.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
* Critical thinking and analytical skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork abilities.
* Proven track record of achieving results.
* Proven ability to work effectively with schools and communities.
* Ability to travel regularly to remote project sites.
