Organization overview
Language and Learning Foundation (www.languageandlearningfoundation.org) is a New Delhi-based non-profit organization with the vision of enhancing equitable student learning, especially language and literacy development, through the professional development of teachers and teacher educators, building/sharing knowledge, and implementing projects in collaboration with state governments. LLF currently works with seven state governments across the country.
LLF aims to improve the Foundational learning outcomes of all children in government primary schools. LLF has collaborated with multiple state governments to scale its FLN programs focusing on Teacher Training, Material Development, Teacher Coaching and Mentoring. LLF also drives systemic change by enhancing the system’s capacity at the district, state and national levels.
Multiple studies, including a Development Impact Bond-based study in Haryana, have proven LLF’s significant impact on student learning outcomes. Premier institutions across India and the globe, including Tata Trusts, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, HT Parekh Foundation, UNICEF, HCL and others, support LLF in delivering quality education.
LLF is implementing outcome based FLN programs in various districts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Chhattisgarh states. As part of this, LLF is initiating a FLN program in Chandauli district from the month of April 2023.
Position Summary
LLF is seeking outcome-oriented and data-driven candidates to manage large-scale projects impacting lakhs of children in government schools across the District(s). As part of the district team, you will work closely with the Government stakeholders and LLF State teams to strategize, plan and execute program activities to improve children’s Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) outcome at scale.
The Block Academic Coordinator will report to the District Program Manager/District Academic Coordinator and will be responsible for implementation of the program in allotted schools to him/her.
Key responsibilities:
• Ensuring implementation of the FLN project activities of LLF at block level in allotted blocks/ schools
• Responsible for delivering the project outcomes with quality in allotted blocks/schools
• Liaison with government official at block and district officials for planning and implementation of FLN activities in schools and ensure collaboration with Academic Resource Persons (ARPs)
• Work closely with ARPs and support & mentor them in conducting classroom observations and providing constructive feedback to teachers as per the guidelines
• Conduct joint visits with ARPs as per prescribed schedules to understand capacity building needs of ARPs. Support ARPs in understanding the teacher specific academic support requirements through classroom observations and trainings
• Conduct individual school visits to observe classroom processes and understand the teacher capacity building and support requirements
• Support ARPs and Sankul Shikshaks in conducting structured shikshak sankul meetings as per the framework and guidelines
• Support atleast 12 Shikshak Sankul meetings in year to ensure the quality meetings as per framework and guidelines
• Support District academic coordinators and District Program Manager in conducting capacity building workshops/trainings for ARPs, district resource groups, district officials and Sankul Shikshaks
• Support ARPs in planning and conducting block level teacher trainings
• Continuous documentation of the project processes and identify super model of the language learning processes and outcomes
• Coordinate with Block Education Officers in all aspects of project implementation
• Facilitate block level structured FLN program review meetings and share appropriate data with block officials to make necessary decisions
• Submit monthly reports to the Block education department and District Coordinator based on the pre-determined objectives for the month/quarter/year
• Document best practices, case studies and success stories from the field to share with donors, central team and governments
• Ensuring Monthly data collection based on the M&E needs derived and track children’s performance cumulatively to ensure their performance in L1 and L2 oral and written competency
• To extensively support block resource school to develop them as demonstrative resource institutions
• Any other work suggested by the district project manager and district academic coordinator will be also part of the JD
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
• Graduate in any relevant stream (Hindi/Math is preferred)
• Experience: 3+ years of work experience in school education sector will be preferred (Training, Teaching and coordination of the program)
• Knowledge and understanding on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy
• Knowledge in Microsoft Office – Excel, PowerPoint and Word
• Strong interpersonal skills, with experience in building & managing relationships
• Strong communication skills, fluency in Hindi
• Team worker
• Result-oriented and ability to adjust to a fast, changing work environment associated with a young, growing organization
• ‘can-do’ attitude and open to feedback.
