ABOUT THE ROLE

Purpose is seeking a Campaign Director to spearhead the Purpose Climate Lab’s India campaigns and join our internationally diverse campaigns team. We’re looking for folks with leadership experience, climate knowledge, strategic oversight and direction expertise.

You should have experience of several years managing multidisciplinary teams and complex projects, and serving as a lead representative with clients and stakeholders, including senior leadership of major foundations, NGOs, and corporations.

This role will be responsible for managing the Climate Lab’s India portfolio of work — creating innovative and inspiring campaign strategy, overseeing implementation, ensuring projects are on-budget and on-time, and tracking against long-term strategy and KPIs. The PCL Campaign Director will work in conjunction with the Climate Lab’s leadership team and in-country program and project managers, to ensure high-quality project design, implementation, measurement and reporting.

Directors play a leadership role on our team, lead campaign projects, collaborate with our creative campaigning team, manage clients, proactively seek out and develop partnerships in the ecosystem, lead on building business development strategy on climate, thought leadership.

The role reports to the Head of Office and is offered at the Director tier. We’re open to candidates based in Delhi or Mumbai (Delhi as base location is strongly preferred).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Campaign Strategy, Development & Management

  • Designing and executing multi-faceted research to support campaign insights, strategy and thought leadership
  • Identifying and building campaign and partnership opportunities in the issue space
  • Build, prototype, and launch new online and offline campaigns and accelerate the most promising existing efforts based on data driven insights;
  • Provide decision making, oversight and troubleshooting capacity on a number of campaigns being executed simultaneously;
  • Drive insights and build innovative ways of campaigning in the Indian context and support thinking of campaign development in international offices;
  • Play a role in the development and constant refinement of our model of acceleration and creation:
  • How do we assess which projects are the most impactful? How do we create quantum and not just incremental change?

Campaign Execution

  • Campaign design & strategy
  • Executing project in defined budget & scope
  • Providing leadership support, mentoring, guidance and direction to a multi-functional project team and support execution of campaign tactics
  • Client and partner relationship management
  • Providing insight and learnings from campaigns to team and client
  • Review and oversight of all project content, documentation and collateral
  • Driving impact, measurement and learning process during the project
  • Research, Analysis and Strategy Development- Strategy development: Creating compelling strategic storylines that demonstrate the connections from insights to strategy, using & proactively building upon Purpose’s core frameworks and IP, and creating big ideas in collaboration with campaigns and creative teams to shape them across a project.
  • Business Development & Strategic Input: Grow the Purpose India project pipeline, specifically help to identify new climate focused BD opportunities, identify development opportunities in the climate space – nationally and globally (funding, conferences, knowledge sharing), add strategic value based on current climate trends.

Partnerships Development & Management:

  • Cultivate trusted advisor status with senior client contacts, steering stakeholders towards stronger outcomes and negotiates persuasively to create solutions
  • Integrate into the partner outreach process and identify engagement opportunities for campaign collaboration
  • Manage partnerships with clients, vendors, partners and corporations

Leadership & Team Building

  • Support ongoing work across issue areas, with a focus on climate change;
  • Manage multiple people with their long-term career growth in mind;
  • Seek out unofficial mentorship opportunities and create an open environment for two-way feedback with team members;
  • Lead by example. Set the standard and models leadership on internal and external projects through strong expectation management, direction and delegation and fosters ownership and commitment in others;
  • Set expectations and hold self and others accountable to Purpose standards; and support and guide others in maintaining positive and respectful relationships, particularly during times of conflict/change.                                                                                                                                                       

ABOUT YOU

  • Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and complex projects;
  • Understanding of Indian campaigning landscape and more specifically with an experienced climate background
  • Campaign or communications background, ideally from a leading consultancy/agency or non-profit advocacy organisation, serving as a lead representative with clients and stakeholders, including senior leadership of major foundations, NGOs, and corporations, with a demonstrated track record leading complex projects with multidisciplinary teams in a deadline-driven environment;
  • Experience managing large-scale campaigns from concept through execution, including
  • Developing and executing campaigns across channels, including earned and paid media, content-led strategies, and direct action;
  • Experience running iterative, agile, and/or lean campaigns that emphasise experimentation and scaling of success, ideally within a technology context
  • Established relationships with key advocacy organisations, including experience working in partnership;
  • Background in political advocacy, organising, digital marketing, public policy, or related field;
  • Ability to manage a young, dynamic and ambitious team;
  • Excellent writing and communication skills;
  • Passion, a sharp mind, high integrity, a hands-on attitude, and an entrepreneurial, problem-solving spirit
