FAST India is a non-profit organization dedicated to propelling India to a top-3 global science and technology (S&T) nation.  We work with government agencies, research institutions, and industry to identify and address systemic challenges hindering S&T advancement. Our approach involves developing and advocating policy solutions, implementing high-impact projects, and fostering a virtuous cycle of research funding, breakthroughs, economic value creation, and reinvestment.  We are co-founded by successful entrepreneur and researcher Varun Aggarwal and philanthropist Ashish Dhawan, and boast an advisory board of eminent scientists and industry leaders.  Our initiatives include policy brief development, the India Science Fest, and a Science Book Fellowship.

 

**Experience Required:**

 

* Final year undergraduate or recent graduate.

* Educational background in Economics or a related field.

 

**Job Description:**

 

This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to FAST India’s mission of strengthening India’s S&T ecosystem.  The intern will work on two key projects:

 

**Project 1:** Analyzing tariffs and non-tariff barriers implemented by various countries and assessing their impact on respective economies, focusing on R&D and innovation.  This involves in-depth research and report writing for a government department.

 

**Project 2:** Conducting a financial analysis of top global companies to compare the return on investment in capital equipment versus R&D.  This involves data collection, analysis, and report preparation.

 

**Responsibilities:**

 

* Conduct in-depth research on tariffs, non-tariff barriers, and their economic impact on R&D and innovation.

* Gather and analyze financial data from global companies to compare CapEx and R&D returns.

* Analyze trends and patterns to assess the effectiveness of tariffs/non-tariff barriers and investment strategies.

* Compile research findings into concise, data-driven reports for stakeholders.

* Assist in creating policy briefs and notes for governmental and institutional partners.

* Present findings clearly and effectively for internal and external audiences.

 

 

**Qualifications:**

 

* Strong motivation to support India’s economic and social development through S&T.

* Strong skills in financial analysis and understanding of economic trends.

* Proficiency in data analysis tools such as STATA, R, and Python.

* Experience with regression analysis and working with complex datasets.

* Ability to take initiative, solve problems effectively, and multitask.

* Broad and strategic mindset with creative aptitude.

* Ability to adapt and work confidently in a fast-paced environment.
