AKAH merges the expertise of several organizations within the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), focusing on disaster risk reduction, sustainable development, and access to essential services. Its work encompasses water and sanitation, low-cost housing solutions, disaster response, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
**Job Location:** Mumbai, India
**Job Summary:**
The Climate Change Coordinator will play a crucial role in driving AKAH’s climate mitigation and adaptation strategies. This involves developing and implementing programs focused on GHG emissions management, sustainable practices, and climate risk assessment across various AKAH programs.
**Responsibilities:**
* Conduct training and workshops on GHG emissions, environmental sustainability, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
* Provide technical guidance to built-environment, emergency management, and development programs on implementing climate change mitigation and adaptation measures.
* Contribute technical expertise to donor proposals related to climate change.
* Lead AKAH’s GHG Measurement and Management initiative, contributing to AKDN’s net-zero 2030 decarbonization plan. Review quarterly GHG emission reports and develop reduction strategies.
* Serve as the AKAH India focal point for environment management, nature-based solutions, and climate action initiatives.
* Collaborate with program teams to conduct environmental assessments, calculate emissions, and plan mitigation measures.
* Conduct regular site visits to ensure environmental compliance and report findings to senior leadership.
* Contribute to urban habitat risk resilience programs by analyzing GHG emissions and developing mitigation strategies.
* Conduct climate risk assessments of neighborhoods using climate and satellite data, focusing on urban heat island effects.
**Requirements:**
* Master’s degree in Environmental Sustainability, Climate Change, Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Policy.
* Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
* Practical knowledge of climate change scenarios, analysis, and application in projects and programs.
* Technical skills in data analysis, GIS, and remote sensing for climate risk assessment.
* Published record of relevant academic research (preferred).
* Knowledge of GHG emissions management, green buildings, and urban heat island assessment (preferred).
