About the role:
As the Communication Associate for the southern region, you will anchor communication efforts for Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka. You will be the bridge between the state project teams, and the communications team of the Schools Program.
1. Media Advocacy
- Establish a pool of local media contacts
- Coordinate with the communications team to have a regional media strategy in place
- Write well-articulated press releases and media articles, reflecting the programme’s work in the region
- Make media pitches, and coordinate with media contacts to get press releases and articles published
2. Case Stories, Testimonials, Impact Films
- Establish a regular cadence with the state project teams and partners to collect case studies and testimonials which reflect our work in schools and communities
- Write appealing stories and articles, which build an impact-first narrative, through direct interactions with stakeholders, and/or close coordination with project team members
- Coordinate with and guide external consultants hired for photo and video shoots, so that they are able to capture impactful stories – be the point-of-contact during field shoots, managing vendors end to end
- Build a repository of existing communications collaterals (photos, videos, stories, posters, etc.), and regularly add to the repository
3. Documentation and Reporting
- Attend all program events in your region, and effectively document the same
- Collate information about the program across projects, and assist in building collaterals, such as newsletters, brochures, presentation decks, etc. for external and internal audiences
- Support all reporting requirements such as quarterly Marcom Reviews
4. Communication Strategy and Social Media
- Assist the Communication Manager in developing state-specific communications strategies
- Be responsible for implementation of state-specific communication strategies in each state
- Be the bridge between project teams and the communications team for monthly social media updates from the region – write social media posts, and ensure coordination with the monthly social media calendar for the program so that the region is adequately represented
- Work with the communication team to consolidate social media pages and channels across regions, and to implement the consolidation strategy
Others:
- Guide project team members in writing blogs and articles
- Assist the Communication Manager in communications capacity-building and training sessions for partners
Requirements
Required Skills and Experience:
- Candidates with a background in journalism or mass communications
- 1-2 years of experience in journalism, advertising or the social sector
- Ability to build state-level context to social issues
- Awareness of communication trends in the social sector
- Good interpersonal, verbal and visual communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team with the help of the vision provided
- Experience with scheduling multiple projects and managing timeline
