Job Description: 

At Ashiyana, we believe that when children and youth experience inner transformation through safe spaces and positive and deep relationships, they can heal themselves, change their behaviours, become self-reliant and disrupt the cycle of poverty and violence. 

Ashiyana works with at-risk youth in Mumbai, ages 14-22, most of whom have dropped out of school, lived on streets, are addicted, have been arrested and faced multiple challenges. Ashiyana works to transform the lives of the children within closed government residential homes and once they leave, out in the world. 

We have expanded our footprint and partnered with the government of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand on a change management initiative intended to provide capacity building support to the staff at their various Child Care Institutions as well as conduct on field programs with the children and youth to help in their physical and emotional wellbeing by imparting them various life and socio-emotional skills. 

Key responsibilities: 

● Document Ashiyana’s programs through photos, videos and writings 

● Develop powerful content that exemplifies the voices of at-risk children and youth. 

● Support Ashiyana staff with communications: Create templates, and ensure quality external communications (email, presentations, training material, etc.) 

● Plan, design, develop and collate communication materials for various stakeholders including monthly reports, newsletters and blogs. 

● Create and maintain appropriate data management and storage channels to enable quick and easy access to acquired data and maintain digital media archives including photos and videos. 

● Build and engage a community of people who support Ashiyana’s work. 

● Ideate and implement ways to increase the organisation’s reach to current and potential stakeholders. 

● Cater to the needs of children as well as the organization by being part of other initiatives of Ashiyana as and when expected. 

We are looking for someone who: 

● Feels called to be part of the healing and transformation of children and youth in closed institutions and sees them as capable of becoming self-reliant and positive contributors to the World. 

● Will be quick to understand the organisation’s ethos, and values as it will better aid in generating communications material that speaks on behalf of Ashiyana. 

● Has good writing, photography and video editing skills. 

● Has excellent storytelling ability to give the audiences an insight and create curiosity about the people we work with, the challenges faced by them, as well as our approach in this field of work. 

● Is able to think creatively, is proactive, organised, and pays great attention to detail. 

● Can collaborate with different stakeholders (team members, volunteers, children and youth, etc.) but also work independently to produce timely and relevant communications material. 

● Demonstrates good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. 

● Is flexible and willing to work outside of normal business hours and holidays and/or weekends as needed and is willing to travel, as and when required.

● At least 2 years’ experience in marketing communications or journalism and sharing stories that connect emotionally with readers. 

Location: Mumbai 

Language Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal & language skills. Proficiency in Hindi and English is a must. 

Educational Qualification: Graduate / Postgraduate in English Literature, Media & Communications / Journalism. 

Salary: Subject to the skill-set, experience and location
