Description
The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center is looking for a competent, self-motivated, and dynamic candidate to join IWMI’s office in Delhi, India as Communication Officer.
The International Water Management Institute, with support from the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), is implementing the first phase of a multi-year, multi-country project titled Solar Irrigation for Agriculture Resilience (SoLAR). This project is being implemented in four countries – Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan. The project aims to contribute to climate-resilient, gender, and socially inclusive agrarian livelihoods in these four countries by supporting their government’s efforts to promote solar irrigation. The project works closely with government partners to achieve its objective.
Currently, the project is in the mid-year of the first phase, and there is an emerging demand for the dissemination of the cross-country research findings from the project from the donor and project and development partners in the renewable energy sector. Given this, the project aims to intensify and strengthen its communication and outreach activities. Therefore, it seeks to appoint a Communication Officer to provide specialized/dedicated technical and multi-media support to all its science communication activities.
The incumbent to this position will work closely with the Regional Project Leader and the Science Communication Expert to (co) create, design, and/or ensure adherence to the branding and formatting requirements for all SoLAR communications within IWMI’s overall branding and design norms. In consultation with the Regional Project Leader and coordination with the Science Communication Expert, the Communication Officer will provide technical backstopping, including multi-media support, to the project’s outreach and dissemination outputs and activities. The position holder will lend technical support to the SDC-SoLAR team in all research and policy-related communication activities.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, brand, and format all SoLAR communication materials by creating a brand for the SoLAR project (within overall IWMI branding norms) and using the same brand/look for all SoLAR communications materials.
- A one-point logistics contact for the SoLAR website and social media posts about the project activities.
- Regularly maintains the (back-end of) SoLAR website in coordination with the IWMI-IT Team and updates contents in consultation with the SoLAR project leader and communication expert.
- Liaisons with IWMI-HQ social media contact person and provide regular updates on IWMI’s social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook) in consultation with SoLAR project leader and communication expert.
- Tracks, analyses, and reports SoLAR website metrics to the project leader and communication expert and keeps the project team updated on the latest technological trends of research communication.
- Designs / creates templates for all project reports and publications, including brochures, pamphlets, and communications materials for all SoLAR regional and national events.
- Effectively use multimedia tools for SoLAR outreach products.
- Liaisons with country-specific photographers/consultants to ensure the development of a suitable repository of all SoLAR photos and their maintenance. Provides relevant technical support and inputs to the communication expert and project leader for developing photostories.
- Coordinates with external content developers (such as videographers, print developers, etc.) – as and when – for producing outreach products to communicate the project’s impact stories. Supports the communication expert, project leader, and other SoLAR research colleagues with relevant technical inputs for developing content/ scripts for videographic outputs.
- Provide technical and logistics support in the organization of the multi-country and national-level forums on the SoLAR project, e.g., Annual Regional Forum, Regional Training Workshops
- Perform other communications related tasks that may be required by SDC – SoLAR Project and IWMI India office
- Maintain regular contact with the IWMI Communications and Knowledge Management (CKM) Team at HQ, follow guidance provided through policies and guidelines made available by the team and advice provided by the Global Communications Lead Water Systems.
Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Communications and Graphics Design or other relevant subjects with a minimum of three years of work experience working on communications related to relevant social-ecological issues.
- Work experience with domestic and/or international civil society organizations
- Previous experience in supporting event organization and management will be preferred.
- Proven ability to design, format, and produce multi-media content based on scientific outputs produced by the project team, with evidence of having published such content in news media, online portals, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Multi-tasking skills and enthusiasm for working across different sectors will be preferred.
- Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a multicultural team.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with designing and communication tools like Canvas, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, etc.
- Effective listening, verbal, and written communication skills in English.
- Fluency in or familiarity with at least one of the spoken and written languages in the region – Hindi, Urdu, Bangla, Nepali, Gujarati.
- Experience in working with multicultural and interdisciplinary research teams.
