The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) is a global research centre working to reduce poverty by ensuring that policy is informed by scientific evidence.

The Communications team at J-PAL South Asia at the Institute of Financial Management and Research (IFMR) seeks an Associate to contribute to its mission of promoting evidence-informed policy-making. 

The team works closely with the Research, Policy and Training verticals for translating the policy and research insights into engaging communication products that include infographics, social media posts, blogs and op-eds as well as help organize events and training courses.

The ideal candidate should be a skilled communicator, creative and should have a flair for writing and design. They will be working closely with the Communications Manager as well as senior colleagues from other verticals to enhance J-PAL South Asia’s outreach activities.

This position is based out of New Delhi.

The Communications Associate will be responsible for:

  • Work towards making J-PAL South Asia’s policy and research insights accessible to non specialist audiences by writing blog posts in formats such as Explainers and Q&A
  • Support the Communications Manager in developing and executing J-PAL South Asia’s internal communications strategy
  • Support the Communications Manager in conceptualizing new initiatives that further J-PAL South Asia’s communication goals
  • Work with J-PAL Global at MIT in creating, updating and organizing J-PAL’s communication design resources
  • Contribute to the planning and promotion of J-PAL South Asia’s flagship events and training courses
  • Work with colleagues in South Asia and at the Global office in MIT in producing content for J-PAL South Asia’s social media 
  • Support senior colleagues in writing press releases and media outreach
  • Develop and track metrics to measure progress of the communications team’s output
  • Support the J-PAL South Asia research, policy, and training teams on any other communications tasks as needed

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Strong writing skills 
  • Facility with social media
  • Familiarity with randomised evaluations and development policy issues will be an advantage

Education

Has recently completed a Master’s degree in communications, journalism, advertising or public relations. A degree in development policy, economics or public policy will be a big plus.

  • Successfully complete assigned tasks and meet deadlines while delivering high-quality outputs
  • Ability to work closely with multiple team members in a collaborative manner
