Position Summary

The role of a Communications Consultant is a key role at The Convergence Foundation where the consultant will work closely with the leadership team of at least two organisations in the TCF Network. The consultant will work to position the organisation as a thought-leader in its domain; build salience for their focus areas; develop campaigns around their programmes, projects, and knowledge products; create high-quality communications assets, and build ‘owned’ and ‘earned’ channels for dissemination.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Building a brand identity: ensure all these assets that help elevate the profile of the organisation have a high bar on quality – brand guidelines, website, organisation deck, fact-sheet, social media accounts, newsletter, annual report / end-of-year deck, and a relevant database of key stakeholders that the organisation must engage with
  • Media and PR outreach:leverage media to build salience for the organisation’s focus areas and programmes. Explore the relevant and effective media activities in the context of the organisations’ work – OpEds, interviews, articles, blogs, media roundtable, media partnerships
  • Cultivate media contacts and engage with them regularly
  • Building an active and engaging social media presence: identify the relevant social media platforms based on the organisations’ work and target audience, and build a content strategy and calendar customised to the platforms. Map relevant stakeholders on the platforms and ensure regular engagement with them when planning / putting out content
  • Stakeholder engagement: build a relevant database of key stakeholders that the organisation must engage with (government functionaries, funders, people of interest)
  • Creating relevant high-salience IPs: develop IPs / multi-media content like videos, blogs, podcasts, etc., to amplify the organisations and their impact areas / programmes
  • Creating Events: build an events calendar so the organisation leadership can network with relevant stakeholders. This will also help with increased organisations’ visibility and strengthen partnerships with ecosystem organisations

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

The ideal candidate should have

  • Led or at least have significant exposure driving communications, preferably in the social impact sector, or with reasonable understanding of the social impact sector
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and creative management skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues in a way that resonates with non-technical audiences.
  • Proven track record in designing and executing communication plans that increase issue salience.
  • Experience in overseeing content production, including design, video, social media, podcasts, and newsletters.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to build high-level relationships with partners, press, donors, and academic researchers.
  • Ability to lead meetings, deliver presentations
  • Ability to work independently and proactively and with little supervision
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, and an ability to set priorities, plan timelines and meet deadlines
  • Remuneration will be competitive with Indian philanthropy pay scales and will depend upon the candidate’s experience.
