WOTR (Watershed Organisation Trust) is a non-profit that is committed to tackling the key causes of rural poverty by rejuvenating ecosystems and building the community’s resilience to climate change. The WOTR Centre for Resilience Studies (W-CReS), initiated in 2007 and established in 2016, is WOTR’s eminent and autonomous applied research unit. 

Employing a trans-disciplinary approach, W-CReS conducts multi-stakeholder, applied research on critical, ground-level issues impacting society. W-CReS’ mission is to unravel the causal relationships and drivers of behavioural change, devise and test potent strategies for transformation, and contribute to policy enhancement and capacity building.

W-CreS works closely with civil society agencies, businesses, local, state and federal governments to achieve its mission. It has formal MOUs with leading publicly funded research and scientific institutions in India, such as the ICAR, IMD, and CRIDA. It’s robust research efforts are attested to by over 200 published research papers, impact studies and socio-economic baseline studies of project villages.

A Snapshot View of Your Role as Deputy Director

As Deputy Director at W-CReS, you will be a key contributor to achieving the objectives of W-CReS and help guide our research and impact in these vital areas.

Under the guidance of the Director, W-CReS, you will:

  • Provide leadership and grow the applied research program at W-CReS.
  • Provide strategic direction to W-CReS, enabling it to evolve into a world-class think tank.
  • Identify potential areas for applied research and implement best in class methodologies to bring these studies to fruition.
  • Establish collaborative arrangements and partnerships with leading knowledge and educational institutions.
  • Reach out to donors, funders and resource agencies in order to advance W-CReS’ mission, capacities and outreach.
  • Interact with policy and opinion makers to translate research findings into actionable change.
  • Anticipate emergent situations likely to affect W-CReS’ areas of interest and proactively attempt to address them. 
  • Develop and execute capacity-building, skilling and training programs for personnel and external partners in areas of W-CReS’ and WOTR’s competence.
  • Drive dissemination and publication of research outputs in peer-reviewed, reputed journals and other communication formats.

Do Apply if you have:

  • A Ph.D, preferably in Environmental Economics or Environmental Sciences.
  • At least 10 years of work experience in the field of natural resources and applied research.
  • Proven ability to conduct and promote high quality interdisciplinary research.
  • Extensive experience in leading trans-disciplinary research teams.
  • Good mentoring and team building skills that foster innovation, creativity and leadership in the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong time management skills and adherence to deadlines.
  • A commendable track record in securing funding for research.
  • A strong network with related institutions, donors, policy and opinion makers.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills and the ability to build and maintain enabling relationships.
  • Fluency in speaking and writing in English and Hindi. 
  • Compensation Package: Commensurate with experience. Negotiable.
