United Way of Mumbai is a non-profit organization dedicated to tackling complex community challenges.  They work on various initiatives, including environmental conservation, through partnerships with schools, colleges, community groups, corporations, government agencies, and NGOs.  Their work encompasses areas such as pollution management, waste management, and community engagement.

 

**Job Overview:**

 

The Deputy Manager will assist the Program Manager in coordinating and implementing environment-related projects, with a special focus on pollution management initiatives (e.g., Mission Mangroves, Clean Shores, waste management promotion).

 

**Job Responsibilities:**

 

* Design, facilitate, and execute environmental projects, campaigns, and corporate employee engagement activities.

* Establish and maintain partnerships with various stakeholders (schools, colleges, community groups, corporations, government agencies, NGOs).

* Manage partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including government bodies (municipal corporations, pollution control boards, forest departments), academic institutions, NGOs, and citizen groups.

* Develop and implement a Monitoring and Evaluation framework for projects.

* Conduct research on relevant issues and provide inputs for project development and execution.

* Develop IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials on pollution management, waste management, water body pollution, and air pollution.

* Create reports, presentations, mailers, advisories, donor reports, social media posts, awareness collaterals, concept notes, and proposals.

* Manage, train, and mentor project teams.

* Oversee project planning, execution, and documentation, ensuring timely completion and managing budgets and financial reporting.

* Conduct extensive fieldwork in and around Mumbai and other project locations across India.

* Represent the organization at external meetings, workshops, and conferences.

* Ensure compliance with local environmental regulations and international best practices.

 

 

**Profile Requisites:**

 

* Postgraduate degree in Environmental Science/Environmental Engineering, Sustainability Studies, Environmental Policy/Management, Natural Resource Management, or an equivalent degree.  Prior experience in pollution/waste management is preferred.

* 5-6 years of experience managing and executing environmental projects.

* Ability to connect and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

* Strong knowledge of environmental issues and interventions.

* Excellent MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

* Adequate knowledge and understanding of pollution/waste management.

* Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Hindi (Marathi fluency is a plus).

* Team player, willing to travel extensively within and outside Mumbai.

* Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, adapt to dynamic environments, and work under pressure.

* Passion for environmental conservation and sustainable development.

 

 

**Remuneration:**

 

INR 800,000 – 1,200,000 per annum (depending on qualifications, experience, and merit).
