## Job Description: Director, Development
**About Teach For India:**

We achieve this by recruiting and developing a network of passionate leaders who commit to two years of teaching in under-resourced schools. These Fellows, along with our growing network of Alumni, are working to create a movement for educational equity in India.
**Job Location:** Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru
**Experience Required:**
* 6-10 years of professional experience. Prior experience in leading a fundraising function for a large non-profit is highly valuable.
* Experience in building and managing high-functioning teams to achieve outcomes through multiple layers.
* Experience in driving operations in high-pressure, goal-driven environments.
* Strategic and critical thinking skills to conceptualize multiple approaches to problem-solving and develop clear roadmaps with defined roles and responsibilities.
* Strong relationship-building and networking skills to connect individuals, groups, and partners with shared goals.
**Job Summary:**
The Director, Development is responsible for ensuring that Teach For India has the financial and non-financial resources needed to achieve its Phase 4 goals and accelerate progress towards its vision. This role will be instrumental in building a world-class fundraising team and shaping the team culture to support a closely connected community of high performers.
**Key Responsibilities:**
* **Develop and execute a strong fundraising strategy:** Create and execute the vision, annual strategic and operating plans to ensure the team meets its goals, significantly grows funding, and builds long-term sustainability. This includes:
* Building and executing a strategy tailored to Teach For India’s funder base and model, enabling significant scaling of funding.
* Developing and implementing strategies and tactical plans to achieve goals for different donor segments (Corporate CSR, Foundations, HNIs, etc.).
* Regularly assessing team-wide progress to goals and identifying what is driving and impeding progress.
* Engaging the fundraising subcommittee by sharing strategic updates on fundraising, progress to goal, and plans to bridge the gap.
* **Build and sustain deep donor relationships:** Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors through engaging in meetings, discussions, and correspondence to acquire, immerse, and retain donors. This includes:
* Liaising with internal and external partners towards fundraising by building and managing strategic partnerships with the Board, local and international development sector partners, and Teach For All global teams.
* Developing value propositions, building compelling narratives, contextualizing the M&E framework for projects, and engaging in strategic impact communication for senior stakeholders.
* Curating fundraising events and leveraging existing Teach For India spaces to engage with donors; enhancing Teach For India’s brand in fundraisers and conferences.
* **Lead and coach the Development Team:** Effectively manage the team to achieve ambitious outcomes, including:
* Building a robust pipeline of talent to lead the organization.
* Managing and coaching the team to ambitious outcomes.
* Driving engagement, growth, and retention of team members.
* Engineering and overseeing a monitoring and evaluation system, coupled with strategic direction, to guide continuous improvement.
* **Ensure strong governance towards compliance & smooth operations:** Act as both an advisor and an auditor to ensure quality control and push the bar of excellence in all development-related systems and processes. This includes:
* Establishing and maintaining effective internal controls to ensure adherence to regulatory and organizational policies.
* Regularly reviewing and updating policies and procedures to comply with legal, financial, and ethical standards.
* Coordinating with legal, finance, technology, recruitment, Strategy and Impact, and operations teams to proactively address compliance issues.
* Overseeing audits and ensuring timely submission of required reports to regulatory bodies.
* Fostering a culture of transparency and accountability within the organization to support smooth and compliant operations.
* Implementing risk management strategies to identify and mitigate potential compliance and operational risks.
* Staying updated on best practices from external agencies and organizations for the Development team’s ways of working.
**As a People Manager:**
* Build a robust pipeline of talent to lead the organization.
* Manage and coach the team to ambitious outcomes.
* Drive engagement, growth, and retention of team members.
* Engineer and oversee a monitoring and evaluation system, coupled with strategic direction, to guide our abilities to continuously improve.
**As a member of the Leadership team:**
* Provide feedback on and play a part in organizational decision-making and long-term strategy as a member of the Leadership Team.
* Drive internal alignment and support for Teach For India’s core Programs.
* Serve as an ambassador of the Teach For India brand and an advocate for our work and for educational equity in our country through both internal and external communication.
* Support with key organizational areas such as Fundraising, Movement Building, and Alumni Engagement.
