Position Objective:
To oversee the effective functioning of all areas of PETA India’s advocacy and campaigns work (PETA India prides itself on having creative, bold, inspiring, readily available and approachable, and knowledgeable senior staff who lead in all areas by example.)

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Recruit, motivate, manage, and maintain staff in the Advocacy Campaigns Department
- Draw upon a thorough knowledge of animal rights, animal protection laws, government functions, and the court system to implement winning strategies for PETA India’s advocacy campaigns
- Lead winning targeted campaigns against institutional and other forms of animal abuse
- Regularly secure meetings and personally meet with top-ranking government officials, lawyers, and anyone else required to achieve campaign goals
- Work closely and lead discussions with staff from other departments, members of the media, celebrities, government officials, and others to ensure we have the support required to win campaigns
- Give regular media interviews about campaigns and participate in televised debates
- Represent PETA India in an impressive, professional manner at a variety of forums, including talks, media interviews, conferences, and more
- Professionally represent PETA India to all persons and entities, including the public, NGOs, government agencies, volunteers, veterinarians, the police, courts, and others at all times
- Use effective letter- and report-writing skills as well as knowledge of the law to suitably review or prepare documents in order to help ensure adequate outcomes for animals
- Use sound judgement and decisiveness in determining the best decisions for each situation, consulting with the CEO when necessary
- Personally train or facilitate the training of advocacy staff and others when requested by the CEO or Human Resources
- Perform any other duties assigned by the CEO
Qualifications:
- A thorough understanding of animal rights as well as of PETA India and its functions
- A recognition that PETA India regularly conducts bold, creative, and even controversial campaigns to get much-needed attention for animal rights and a willingness to lead or support such efforts
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution in a relevant field
- A veterinary or legal degree is a plus
- Previous work at an NGO is a plus
- Minimum of five years of management experience
- Willingness to work outside of regular work hours as needed
- Ability to handle a heavy workload
- Exceptional organisational, management, time-management, and multi-tasking skills
- Strong computer proficiency
- Fluency in Hindi and English
- Knowledge of other local Indian languages a plus
- Ability to deal professionally with staff, members of the public, and other stakeholders at all times
- Thorough knowledge of Indian animal protection laws and relevant government and legal structures
- Effective ability to speak publicly and interact with the media
- Passion for animal rights, with an “animals come first” attitude
- Compassionate, responsible, and self-reliant character
- Outgoing and personable manner with excellent written and oral communication skills
- Adherence to a vegan lifestyle
- Ability and willingness to travel independently and even extensively, as needed
- Supportive position vis-à-vis PETA India’s philosophy and the ability to advocate for the group’s positions on issues in a professional manner
