About IHAT:

India Health Action Trust (IHAT) works towards reducing inequities by developing comprehensive and sustainable programs to improve population health. We work closely with the Government of India and state governments to achieve its public health goals. Our work is focused on areas of prevention and control of HIV and Tuberculosis, in achieving significant improvements in Reproductive Maternal Neonatal and Child Health, improved Nutrition among mothers and children, and strengthening health systems. Our work is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

IHAT has set up multiple Technical Support Units (TSU) for the Governments of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Delhi and an Innovation Hub in Madhya Pradesh to provide techno-managerial assistance and coordinate with the Governments, Non-Government Agencies, Academic Institutions, and Communities.

About Program:

India Health Action Trust in partnership with the HCL Foundation is implementing a project to “Improve Maternal and Newborn Outcomes in Tribal Areas of Madhya Pradesh” (Project MANCH).   The project, under the guidance of National Health Mission, Government of Madhya Pradesh, will work across community, facility and health systems levels to pilot effective and scalable models. It will work towards building capacity of frontline works and clinical staff while also streamlining process to improve availability quality and utilization of MNCH services.

Reporting to: District Program Manager, Shahdol

Travel Requirements: 40% – 50% travel is expected

Job Summary :

The District Community Coordinator will provide oversight to the implementation of the community process of Project MANCH in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh and other IHAT Projects. She/He will be responsible for working with the district government officials to identify and close critical gaps in availability, quality and utilization of MNCH services.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Management

  • Under the guidance of the State Program Team (MP) and District Program Manager (Shahdol) the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the community interventions program being implemented as per agreed project plan.
  • Coordinate with District & Block Government Officials and other key stakeholders to identify issues/challenges faced by tribal communities and Engage in problem solving along tribal community elected leaders and key opinion leaders.
  • Establish strong partnerships with local organizations to identify synergies for improving community involvement in MNCH service utilization in the district
  • Contextualize and implement program in response to local needs; Propose/Develop innovative ideas/models etc. that can improve MNCH outcomes.
  • Attend various Government review meetings at District and Block levels to ensure that program achievements and challenges are adequately highlighted.

Community Expertise

  • Expertise in working closely with community on opportunities and programs in Tribal areas of central India.
  • Develop capacity building modules and innovative training materials / case studies / tools and other teaching aids for training of various categories of stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with individuals from different backgrounds and Tribal communities.
  • Comfort with taking up new and complex problems, applying everyday learning and insights, and solving through collaboration.

Work Experience:

  • Experience working with Tribal areas and with Tribal population would be considered as essential.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of proven experience at the District level managing MNCHN/ Health programs in Tribal areas.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field.

Technical Competencies

  • Technical knowledge and experience in Tribal Health; experience in maternal, newborn and child health programs would be strong asset
  • Experience in working with government/development agency in community based intervention
  • Good understanding of health care systems with knowledge of Madhya Pradesh context at community level.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in written and spoken Hindi and Knowledge of local Tribal languages.
