## Job Description: Economist/Sr. Economist
**About The Convergence Foundation (TCF)**
The Convergence Foundation (TCF) is a grant-making incubator, spearheaded by philanthropist Ashish Dhawan. TCF focuses on building and scaling new foundations that address crucial areas within India’s development sector.
**About Centre for Effective Governance of Indian States (CEGIS)**
CEGIS, a TCF initiative, aims to empower state governments by strengthening their capacity and public systems. Their work emphasizes improving governance, enhancing service delivery, and optimizing the effectiveness of public expenditure.
**Job Overview**
CEGIS is seeking multiple economists to join their “Economics and Statistics Unit” to conduct impactful economic analysis focused on state-level policy issues in India. This position provides an opportunity to contribute to research and analysis that directly influences public policy and development outcomes for millions of people.
**Job Location**
Chennai / Hyderabad / Delhi/ Bengaluru/ Mumbai (other locations may be considered)
**Experience Required**
* **Economist:** Ph.D. in Economics, Public Policy, or a related field with 0-5 years of experience OR Master’s degree in Economics with 4+ years of experience in empirical analysis and policy-focused research.
* **Sr. Economist:** Ph.D. in Economics, Public Policy, or a related field with 5-10 years of experience.
**Responsibilities**
* Conduct original economic research and analysis to evaluate proposed expenditure items.
* Analyze government policies and programs and evaluate key programs.
* Synthesize relevant research to address policy questions.
* Collaborate with academic and other researchers to acquire expert insights.
* Mentor and coach teams of analysts.
**Qualifications**
* Strong quantitative, analytical, and conceptual skills in economics.
* Proven experience in applied research and policy.
* Expertise in data science and working with large datasets.
* Familiarity with major research datasets covering India.
* Excellent writing and communication skills in English.
* Fluency in other Indian languages is a plus.
* Demonstrated interest in government functioning improvement and evidence-based policy.

**Compensation**
Remuneration will be competitive with Indian academic and think tank pay scales, based on experience levels.
