The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced research and evaluation manager with experience of working in monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) with national and international philanthropic foundations, non-profits, multilateral agencies, development finance institutions, and/or government bodies. The professional must have experience in a leadership position and should have worked in a multi- stakeholder environment.

The Engagement Manager will be an integral part of our Evidence and MEL team, with a core responsibility of leading project delivery, client management, team management, and stakeholder management for MEL projects. The Engagement Manager will be responsible for:

Creating research designs, methodologies, analysis plans, and problem solving

  • Designing relevant research designs, methodologies, tools and analysis plans for different MEL programs – including needs assessments, rapid assessments / lean surveys, landscaping and scoping studies, theory of change and MEL framework development projects, process evaluations, proof of concept studies, and impact evaluations for programs or complex systems. Sectors in which MEL programs will be conducted include health, education and life skills, vocational training, agriculture and livelihood, water and sanitation, financial and digital inclusion, etc.
  • Guiding the team to conduct data analysis, visualization, insight generation, and report writing
  • Drafting a cohesive narrative and relevant recommendations from findings of the study to communicate it to the clients

Program Management

  • Effectively managing multiple projects, leading timely delivery within the budget, and achieving project outcomes
  • Ensuring resources are adequately mapped to the projects, and are being regularly guided and supported to achieve the desired goals
  • Leading multiple projects with the teams and taking accountability of project closure and client satisfaction
  • Foreseeing internal and external risks, creating mitigation strategies, and planning for contingency
  • Regularly governing multiple projects to ensure that timelines, delivery, budget, and team resourcing is tracked and managed on a regular basis

Client and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Leading client engagements and stakeholder engagement through relationship building, active listening and providing strategic inputs which align with their vision of high impact on the ground and the ecosystem
  • Co-creating solutions to meet client’s current and future needs and working closely with key stakeholders
  • Presenting synthesized outputs and recommendations based on in-depth understanding of the client’s work, their needs, and the developmental needs of the program beneficiaries
  • Influencing evidence-based decision making and action to enable positive, scalable, replicable and sustainable impact

Leading a team

  • Leading a team of 10-12 people to deliver projects and internal business unit activities
  • Ensuring team wellbeing through regular check-ins to understand professional aspirations and growth trajectory
  • Supporting the team during challenges and setbacks through a combination of guidance, and hand-holding support
  • Enabling a transparent and participatory culture, engaging with all team members to co-create solutions, and drive relevant change processes for the team/ project/ function.

Enabling business development, and building expertise and thought leadership

  • Contributing to technical grants and proposals for new programs
  • Building thematic areas of expertise under MEL domains, that strengthen Sattva’s capabilities to deliver value to our clients
  • Building, structuring and developing knowledge to share internally within the organisation and at the ecosystem level

Key qualifications and experiences

We are looking for passionate individuals who align with our vision and have the following profile and core competencies:

  • 7-9 years of research and MEL experience with national and international philanthropic foundations, non-profits, multilateral agencies, development finance institutions, and/or government bodies
  • A minimum of 2 years of client management and account management experience, where the applicant played the lead role
  • A minimum of 2 years of team and people management experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of program management experience
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic and multidisciplinary environment as part of a closely-knit team (demonstrating patience, tenacity and poise under pressure)
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively
  • Is agile and is able to adapt to and thrive in ambiguous situations
