WWF-India is launching a Climate Change Hub—a new initiative aimed at integrating and mainstreaming climate in its programmatic work across biodiversity conservation and ecological footprint pillars. The Climate Hub is envisioned to be a think tank with a strong focus on connecting conservation and climate change. The Hub will work with key external stakeholders and institutions (both national and global), that are active in policy development, research, implementation, financing low carbon development, energy transition and climate adaptation. Climate Hub has an interesting and a diverse portfolio of projects. These include the One Planet City Challenge—a global platform for cities to showcase climate action; Climate Solvers—a global initiative to strengthen the development and widespread use of innovative low carbon technologies and work on energy transition and nature based solutions. 

We are looking for an Expert-Climate Change Adaptation to be part of the Climate Hub for immediate recruitment. This position will be part of a thought leadership group in WWF-India, responsible to shape the organisation’s work on climate change in general and adaptation in particular in the next decade. This position will work closely with high impact cross cutting teams—both with in India and across WWF network—working on wildlife and habitats; rivers and wetlands; oceans and coasts; sustainable agriculture, sustainable business and finance.

Reporting to: Director, Climate Hub 

Job Profile:

  • Lead and contribute to the integration of climate adaptation in WWF-India’s programmes across various landscapes, riverscapes and seascapes.
  • Lead design of nature-based solutions and ecosystem based adaptation initiatives in priority landscapes, riverscapes and seascapes. Extend support to teams in WWF-India in the implementation of climate change adaptation initiatives.
  • Keep a tab on developments on climate change adaptation/nature based solutions, domestically and internationally, to strategise WWF-India’s engagement in this space.
  • Engage, analyse and contribute to policy on climate change adaptation, including nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based adaptation across cross-cutting thematic areas such as agriculture, water, forest, biodiversity, among others.
  • Develop technical papers and articles on climate adaptation, nature-based solutions, ecosystem based adaptation to inform and engage various stakeholders. Organise workshops/ meetings/ consultations, and prepare relevant documents and communication materials for wider outreach.
  • Lead training and capacity development of internal and external stakeholders to mainstream adaptation work.
  • Build relationship and closely cooperate with external stakeholders
  • Support resource mobilization to ensure availability of adequate resources to effectively meet the objectives of the Climate Hub.
  • Represent WWF-India at key external fora/platforms to showcase climate adaptation initiatives.

Requirements

Desired Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:

  • Master’s Degree in Climate Change/ Environmental Science/Natural Resource Management/Forestry/ Natural Sciences or related disciplines, from a recognized university.
  • 5-7 years of relevant, post qualification, professional experience in the area of climate change adaptation/nature based solutions.
  • Knowledge and proven experience of proposal development and technical report writing, shall be an added advantage.
  • Experience of working with a range of stakeholders from the Government, industry, donors/philanthropies, think tanks, financial institutions and. Experience in working with Rural stakeholders will be an added advantage.

Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong research and analytical skills. Prior involvement in design and implementation of research-based projects and assessments is expected.
  • Proven experience of policy advocacy work will be an added advantage.
  • Good communication, project execution & planning skills.
  • Excellent inter-personal and team skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, think strategically and display strong result-oriented approach.
  • Full familiarity with relevant computer applications (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, any other modelling tools and applications, GIS, etc.)
