The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) is seeking to expand its team in the space of Climate Change and Sustainability. We are looking at economists at the Fellow level (10+ years of experience) with interest in economic policies associated with climate change, transition and sustainability. Candidates with (a) deep interest in climate change and sustainability policies, (b) strong publications record in any field of quantitative economics, and (c) an understanding of Indian institutions and policymaking should apply. Past work on climate change and sustainability is not a precondition. The Fellow will be reporting to the Senior Fellow overseeing climate change and sustainability related studies at CSEP.
The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) conducts independent, in-depth, and policy-relevant research, and provides evidence-based recommendations to the challenges facing India and the world. It draws on the expertise of its researchers, extensive interactions with policy makers as well as convening power to enhance the impact of research. Our researchers work across the domains of Economic Growth and Development including Urbanization; Energy, Natural Resources, Climate change and Sustainability; and Foreign Policy and Security. All our research and policy recommendations are freely available to the public.
CSEP is based in New Delhi and registered as a company limited by shares and not for profit, under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 1956 (now Section 8 of Companies Act, 2013).
The research professional is expected to have a PhD in economics from a globally recognized institute. They would have good publications record with robust empirical and policy-oriented research. The candidate must have demonstrated research in a wide expanse of areas and demonstrated ability to work on diverse topics. Currently the team members are working on impact of climate change on agriculture, fiscal issues in energy transition, impact of carbon tax, climate finance, input output analysis, etc.
The specific areas of expertise include econometrics and data/statistical analysis, institutional analysis, and policy orientation. The researcher would need to be highly conversant with econometric and data analysis software such as Stata, Python, R etc. Excellent writing skills, and the ability to tease out insights from disparate, diverse, or unstructured data.
The Fellow would be expected to contribute in framing long term research path of the climate change group, conceptualize and conduct studies both independently and with other team members, and also oversee work of others. They would also be expected to interact with diverse policymakers and stakeholders, industry bodies, academia, think tanks and funders. Good verbal and presentation skills would be critical for the role as well as ability to communicate and engage both nationally and internationally.
