About Swaniti
Swaniti Initiative aims to strengthen public service delivery by working with state and local governments across South Asia with a strong focus on India. Our interventions have included strengthening scheme implementation by identifying current gaps and limitations, providing research support to Hon’ble Members of Parliament about best practices in moving forward, and developing data-technology tools that can back decision-making processes. With flagship initiatives like Supporting Parliamentarians in Analysis and Research in Constituencies (SPARC) and Leadership and Engagement Associate in District (LEAD), Swaniti has supported constituency development and district development planning in various parts of the country. At present, along with working with 200+ Hon’ble Members of Parliamentarians for policy making, are working as advisors to state governments to ensure the delivery of schemes to the last mile. Major verticals of our work are climate and sustainability, social protection, and livelihood.
Macro objectives of the position:
- Lead research and public outreach on climate diplomacy and just transitions in the U.S., India and globally.
- Produce high quality research reports in the domain of climate diplomacy and just transition.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues in the U.S. and India, maintaining a high level of scholarship in a fast-paced environment.
- Develop innovative projects to address the gaps pertaining to climate diplomacy and just energy transition in various parts of the world
Responsibilities
- The Fellow will be responsible for leading research and public engagement work on climate diplomacy projects between the U.S., India and the rest of the world. They will also be leading Swaniti’s U.S. program on just transition away from fossil fuels.
- The Fellow is expected to develop project research design, apply their qualitative and quantitative research skills, and publish research reports.
- Represent Swaniti as an influential voice in the climate diplomacy, just transition and energy transitions space among different U.S and international stakeholders including the government, civil society and experts.
- Conceive and lead events, such as workshops and roundtables to advance Swaniti’s research and analysis on climate diplomacy and just transitions.
- The project lead may also be requested to occasionally travel to different U.S. states and India as required
- Contribute to the thought leadership and strategic direction of Swaniti’s climate diplomacy and just transition work streams especially in the U.S.
- Work with and mentor interns, analysts, and associates to produce research and to facilitate their professional development.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of work experience, working in the U.S. and internationally in the climate, energy and development domain.
- Candidates with work experience in the U.S Federal government, state governments or with elected representatives will be preferred.
- PhD or Master’s degree in environmental sciences, environmental policy, public policy with a specialization in energy/environment, or a related relevant field with demonstrable experience with conducting research and developing policy solutions. Candidates with bachelor’s degrees and over 7 years of work experience, especially in the U.S, will be considered at par.
- Ability to work with 1-2 visualization data tools such as Adobe, GIS or other such software.
- Knowledge of programming in R, Python or others is required.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to lead or work on larger research and engagement projects involving multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively as needed.
- Must possess a self-starting and entrepreneurial outlook for leading research.
- Must be fluent in writing and speaking English, demonstrated though prior research reports or academic publications; knowledge of additional languages is an asset.
