Our ambition is to permanently empower 1 million rural Indians over the next few years, and we’re expanding our Fundraising (FR) and Donor Management (DM) functions to keep pace with increasing our geographic presence, by growing institutional philanthropic collaborations in India (+ internationally) including grants, donations, CSR + aid via multi-lateral agencies. We currently have >30 active institutional funding partnerships; now growing our teams across roles to support these high-growth plans.

Role: Part of Dept. Senior Leadership.

Reporting to: Head Partnerships (Director FR); will work closely with the Head & team, Heads of Dept. & CEO.

Location: Mumbai (Head Office); Full-time role with flexi working opportunity (post confirmation) determined from time to time as per team needs and/ organizational directive.

Occasional periodic travel to Swades’ rural geographies of implementation i.e. presently Raigad & Nashik districts in Maharashtra (field visits with donors & prospects, employee volunteering, due diligence & project reviews, internal / external events etc.) and as we expand to new locations.

Responsibilities: The role includes the ownership & delivery by way of the following KRAs (key result areas):

A. Donor Engagement & Relationship Management

1.Lead & manage institutional funding partnerships; ownership of function & process of donor management

  • Manage routine reporting + regular donor comms
  • Implement efficient systems to ensure funding partnerships meet full potential i.e. engagement, volunteering + funding opportunities round the year
  • Keep up to date on Plans (MoUs) i.e. program progress, utilization of funds, allocations and alignment of donor partners on reallocations if needed with apt logical reasoning and analysis
  • Coordinate donor engagement activities
  • Timely submission of donor reports (financial & programmatic)

2. Responsibility to maintain & grow these year-on-year, multi-project and multi-year commitments

  • Gradually, also support acquisition of potential (new) donors / funding to other programs

B. Internal Stakeholder Management

  • Work with Supervisor / FR Head and internal teams – Program Heads / Geography Heads & teams, Finance, Monitoring & Evaluation (Reporting, Social Audits & Surveys) to ensure effective donor communication
  • Ownership of donor budgets; work with implementation teams incl. costing structure changes
  • Support Communications team with information + external comms requirements for social media posts, donor-specific campaigns, donor events etc.

C. Knowledge Mgt. & Process Improvement

  • Groom junior resources in the team; buddy new joiners
  • Maintain & update trackers for funding + records for MOUs, Proposals and databases
  • Timely reporting to donors: accurate & transparent with positive narrative of impact
  • Ability to understand & analyse costs / budgets; question program spends proposed for funding
  • Custodian of data & analytics regarding progress; monitoring of program(s)
  • Organize project reviews at regular intervals + monitor progress 

Experience and Qualifications: Prefer candidates who possess the following:

  • Total work exp.: 15-18+ years for graduates (pref. commerce / math / economics stream) / 12-15+ years for post-graduates (pref. in management); incl. 3-5+ years exposure to social sector / directly in an NGO (preferred)
  • Experience in developing connections & lasting engagements with existing & potential major donors & collabs.
  • Prog. /Donor Mgt. experience in social dev. space (Corp. Foundations, NGOs / Implementation Partners) OR Corp. experience in hospitality/media/ BFSI / KPO with KRA of large/key account mgt. / relationship mgt. role
  • Prefer experience of working on grant mgt. and/or securing funding for charitable or NGO activities from a variety of funding streams (preferred)
  • Skilled in data analytics & consulting
  • Exposure to MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT) and basic number crunching would be of value
