A little bit about who we are
At WOTR, we are committed to tackling the key causes of rural poverty by rejuvenating ecosystems and building the community’s resilience to climate change by enhancing water availability, increasing land and agricultural productivity, diversifying livelihoods, empowering women, and strengthening the health and well-being of vulnerable rural communities.
WOTR brings together practitioners, academicians, researchers, trainers, and policy makers to work collaboratively in building the resilience of rural communities. Our partners, including donors and government agencies stand resolutely behind us to effect this.
Over the course of nearly 30 years, we have already made a significant impact, having worked in 10 states and 4395 villages, and positively impacting the lives of 4.43 million people. We remain dedicated to continuing this important work and expanding our efforts to make an even greater difference in the lives of those we serve. A brief snapshot of the role:
We are now launching a programme to provide technical assistance for ecosystem-centric, climate resilient development in rural Maharashtra in collaboration with related departments of the Government of Maharashtra.
One component of this program is Enhancing Water Security and Building Water Resilience across vulnerable regions of the state.
We are seeking a highly motivated Consultant in Hydrogeology who will be responsible to lead and drive this effort. This critical role will be for a one-year period, which may be extended. It will be based in Mumbai with periodic travel to Pune and across the state.
As Consultant – Hydrogeology you will:
- Conduct consultations/meetings with related government departments and agencies and develop a Strategy and Roadmap to enhance Water Security and Water Stewardship in vulnerable regions of the state.
- Conduct sensitization and awareness workshops for related government department staff (at all levels)/stakeholders for implementation of the Water Stewardship Program and Roadmap, facilitate the same and monitor progress.
- Develop a Training Curriculum (including training material) and conduct Training of Trainers events (ToTs) to progress upscaling of the concept and practice of Water Stewardship and its components (Water Budgeting, Aquifer Management, Water Certification – the Water Governance Standard).
- Provide support to concerned departments/ agencies to popularize the practice of Water Stewardship and incentivize behavioural change in the way rural communities manage and use water.
- Contribute to developing an integrated state-level drought resilience plan incorporating ecosystem-based adaptation, watershed development, climate resilient agriculture and water stewardship programs.
Apply if you have:
- 7+ years of field experience including in mobilizing communities.
- A PhD or Master’s in Geology/hydrology/water resource management.
- Have done policy-related analytical and research work.
- Familiarity with Govt. programmes concerning Water for rural India.
- Engaged and liaised with Govt. department and agencies
- Written and Spoken Fluency in Marathi and English.
- Familiarity with climate change and its impact on water resources.
