Position Overview: 

India Fundraising Manager will play an integral role in securing the funding that allows Room to Read to promote literacy and gender equality in education around the world. The Fundraising Manager will build awareness of Room to Read’s goals through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of relationships with major corporations, foundations, events, and high-net-worth individuals in India, and strengthen their commitment to our mission.

The India Fundraising Manager will lead a fundraising team and contribute to the development and execution of the annual market plan and contribute to India revenue goals.

This role will work collaboratively with the India country office, regional program operations, and other Global Development offices.  We are looking for a dynamic, motivated team player committed to our cause and who has a track record of delivering results.  The position is based in Mumbai, and reports to the Development Director, South Asia.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Primary responsibilities 

  • Raise >USD 1.5 million per year from companies, foundations, and HNI Individuals in India.
  • Build long-term relationships with corporate and foundation donors, individual donors and prospects, identifying, cultivating, and stewarding their interests.
  • Lead a team of 3 members and support them in achieving their funding goals.
  • Collaborate with Development Director, South Asia, to co-manage key relationships and execute the annual fundraising plan for India.
  • Develop the Individual/HNI fundraising strategy in collaboration with Development Director, South, and contribute to revenue growth from diverse fundraising streams.
    Support Development Director, South Asia on board meetings preparation and work collaboratively on board-led fundraising events.
  • Stay current with organizational strategies, operational plans, and program details to recommend and present potential funding opportunities to donors.
  • Proactively lead efforts to build a pipeline for high-level grants, awards, and prizes from the corporation, foundation, and Individual HNI donors in India and collaborate across teams to pursue strategic opportunities.
  • Oversee and execute all logistical elements of Fundraising event management including – venue, sponsorship, format, development of collateral materials, etc in partnership with a few board members, Global Events lead, and Development Director, South Asia.
  • Work collaboratively with the donor engagement team on India donor benefits and donor engagement activities. 

Other Responsibilities 

  • Participate and contribute to the Global Accounts Coordination Group to collaborate with other Development Manager managers globally. 
  • Independently, or in collaboration with the Grants & Publications team, write, edit and/or coordinate clear, compelling written materials including concept papers, letters of inquiry, proposals, presentations, reports, and additional materials as needed. 
  • Work closely with India country office- Finance Department to ensure budgets and financial reports are appropriately represented. 
  • Keep track of India grants spending trends and work with programme operations team on repurposing plans as needed periodically.
  • Work in collaboration with Development Director, Global Programme Operations, and India Operations and contribute to the India country office annual programme targets/new geographic expansion plans based on donor funding commitments and pipeline.
  • As needed, contribute to the team’s efforts around obtaining and tracking gifts in kind (GINKI) or pro bono support from donors.
  • Maintain current donor records in Salesforce/NPSP, as needed. 

Other duties as necessary. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of ten years of relevant work experience in sales, project management or administration, including 5 years of direct experience in nonprofit corporate fundraising or fundraising events.
  • Track record of successfully leading teams.
  • Knowledge of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies
  • Proven track record of obtaining corporate and foundation funding in the $100,000 to $250,000 gift range
  • Strong presentation skills with ability to interpret and present programmatic and financial data to external stakeholders 
  • Demonstrated understanding of organizational financial reports as well as project and program budgets 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and editing skills in English
  • Strong cross-cultural communications skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Legally eligible to work in India; no sponsorship provided
