**Job Title:** Lead Climate Change & Governance

iFOREST is an independent, not-for-profit research and innovation organization established in 2019. Its mission is to identify, promote, and scale up solutions for pressing environment-development challenges, focusing on regional priorities to accelerate environmental actions at the sub-national level and improve national policies and plans. iFOREST leverages regional knowledge to inform national policy and plans and strengthen international collaboration.
**Job Summary:**
iFOREST seeks an experienced and dynamic professional to lead its Climate Governance program. This pivotal role involves guiding research and engagement on climate law and institutions at national and sub-national levels, developing action plans, and addressing relevant matters. A deep understanding of climate change legislative and institutional frameworks in India and globally is essential.
**Responsibilities:**
* **Research and Engagement:** Lead research initiatives; conduct in-depth research on climate-related laws, policies, and institutions; assess the effectiveness of current frameworks and identify gaps; develop policy reform and institutional strengthening recommendations; guide the development of sub-national climate action plans; create research documents (reports, policy papers, factsheets); design and manage a comprehensive outreach strategy; build policy-research partnerships; organize roundtables and convenings; represent iFOREST in national and international forums.
* **Project and People Management:** Design comprehensive research plans; assign and monitor research tasks; mentor researchers and communications professionals; conduct performance reviews.
* **Strategy and Institutional Growth:** Contribute to program strategy; develop concept notes and proposals; contribute to decisions ensuring organizational efficiency.
**Required Competencies:**
* Deep understanding of climate laws, policies, and governance structures, particularly in India.
* Strong analytical and research skills.
* Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders (government, industry, civil society).
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Leadership and team management capabilities.
* Willingness to travel.
**Desirable Competencies:**
* Experience working with international organizations, think tanks, or government bodies on climate governance.
**Qualifications:**
* Bachelor’s degree in Law (advanced degree in law, preferably focusing on Environmental or Climate Law, preferred).
* Master’s degree in Public Policy, Environmental and Resource Policy, or a related discipline.
* Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience in climate governance, climate-related legislation, institutional frameworks, or environmental policy research.
