Teach For India is on a journey to reach an India free of poverty and filled with love by ending educational inequity in our country. Twelve years into our journey we are a movement of 3800 Alumni working at all levels of the education system, who are reaching 1 in 10 children across the country. These Alumni have graduated from our two-year Fellowship Program where they taught in under-resourced classrooms to put 32,000 low-income children on a different life path. Today, we have 970 Fellows and are the largest pipeline of driven, skilled talent into the educational ecosystem in India.

In 2022, we embark on Phase 4, our fourth strategic phase. We have a bold and ambitious ten-year journey ahead of us that aims to grow 50,000 leaders, who will work collectively, and with love, to transform the lives of 1 in 10 low-income children in our regions, through an education that unleashes the potential of self, others and India. In this decade, five key priorities will lead us to this vision.

  • Strengthen our core Fellowship to build strong teacher leaders who provide an excellent and equitable education to our children and continue to do so beyond the Fellowship
  • Scale our impact by strategically introducing additional Fellowships as alternative pathways for leadership development
  • Match the Alumni of our programs at an intersection of their interests and the needs of the system and our children
  • Advocate for key issues that impact educational equity, and engage 3.5% of the population in the movement for educational equity
  • Act collectively with our Alumni to learn about and address key issues in our regions.

Position Summary

Reporting to: Director, Development

Directly Managing: Acquisitions team (Corporates, Foundations, and HNI) of six members

The Lead, HNI Acquisitions, will lead a team that will secure new partnerships by strategically developing newer fundraising avenues and champions to support Teach For India’s ambitious goals by leading research, producing high-impact communication, developing and executing strategies. 

As a Lead, HNI Acquisitions, you will

  • Develop, implement and monitor strategies and action plans to drive pursuits across all work streams – Corporate, Foundations, HNI, as well as build strategic alternative sources of funding e.g. Government, Multilaterals, and Alumni.
  • Strong prospect research and intelligence to make recommendations on how we can engage, influence, and inspire potential champions to contribute.
  • Produce funding value propositions grounded in our vision and supported/customized by compelling stories and robust evidence. In addition, project manage the writing production process across all work streams.
  • Engage Board and Connectors (Staff, Alumni, Teach For All) to build a pipeline of new prospects, as well as service leads generated through the pull factor. 
  • Build deep and expansive engagement with key strategic Foundation and HNI partners. This includes managing large scale strategic grants – monthly update calls, quarterly impact reporting.
  • Design agile learning systems through spaces to amplify voice and dialogues, surface barriers to execution, problem solve, learn and share, celebrate, collaborate. Support regional leads through strong check-ins that track progress-to-goal, compliance, and processes.
  • Manage relevant donor management systems like Salesforce and Team Drives to review progress, track critical tasks, and drive for results.
  • Partner with other Vertical Heads and teams (e.g. Alumni Impact, HR, Training & Impact) to maximize Teach For India’s external positioning to support the development goals.

As a People Manager, you will

  • Build a robust pipeline of talent to lead the organization.
  • Manage and coach the team members to ambitious outcomes.
  • Drive engagement, growth, and retention of team members.
  • Engineer and oversee a monitoring and evaluation system, coupled with strategic direction, to guide our abilities to continuously improve.

As a Senior Manager at Teach For India you will be

  • Contributing to the team goals and priorities beyond individual goals and priorities.
  • Driving internal alignment and support for Teach For India’s core Programs.
  • Serving as an ambassador of Teach For India and an advocate for our work and for educational equity in our country through both internal and external communication after committing time in our classrooms to understand our work more deeply.

Minimum Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations

  • Graduate/Postgraduate in any field.
  • 5-8 years of relevant work experience in client-facing roles. Previous experience working in the development/education sector or sectoral exposure to corporates/foundations/worked with HNIs with fundraising experiences (preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; prior professional experience writing or editing high-level external communications (preferred).
  • Highly developed interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Strong project management skills (Experience in managing multiple complex projects).
  • Experience of having worked with CXOs/Senior Management stakeholders (preferred).
  • Teach For India Fellowship experience is preferred.
