About Parag initiative:

The Parag Initiative of Tata Trusts aims to strengthen the children’s literature sector in India to enable a culture of reading among children. To achieve this Parag works supports (i) the development of and access to good quality story books for children in Indian languages; (ii) supports school and community libraries across the country so that children have free access to books and an open and vibrant environment that supports reading for pleasure; (iii) offers professional development courses and works with teachers, librarians and facilitators to develop their capacity to engage with children’s literature and create a relationship between books and children. It also nurtures the children’s literature sector through awards, professional courses and creating platforms for linking stakeholders. Parag is a pan India initiative.

Responsibilities

Lead and support Parag’s library work across 8 states:

●      Operationalize the library program while scaling best practices, working with governments and strengthening systems.

●      Work with state teams to create vision for their library program, programmatic Annual work plans and oversee its execution through providing timely technical support.

●      Mentor and support field teams and enable smooth implementation of programs.

●      Develop and implement strong process monitoring of libraries including anchoring baseline/end line evaluation, library observation, MIS tracking etc.

●     Building synergies of library work within the Education Program undertaken by the Tata Trusts’ state teams – including creating opportunities for cross learning.

●     Regularly visit different field sites, conduct demonstration sessions for field teams, and use feedback to strengthen programme inputs.

●       Ensure timely submission of documentation & report writing of the program, including Quarterly/Annual narrative reports, capturing case studies, training Reports, detailed field visit report and other reports etc.

●      Work with state teams to maintain process documentation of library programs for each location regarding activities, training, implementation, data etc.

●     Design and undertake in-service teacher training and facilitator capacity building around libraries to strengthen implementation of the program.

  • Reporting Manager for one team member within the library team at Parag. Manage allocation, monitoring of work and overall performance of the reportee.
  • Work with Parag team members anchoring book development, and professional capacity building work to ensure synergies across verticals.
  • Contribute to and participate in Parag conferences and events and any other activity required to fulfill the objectives of the Parag program.

Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Education or allied fields with a keen interest in children’s literature and library practice.

Job Specifications

●     Good understanding of the role of libraries and impact of good quality children’s literature on the reading journey of children.

●     Understanding of and good familiarity with children’s literature in Hindi.

●     Good facilitation skills in conducting sessions for professionals like teachers and educators.

Competencies

●     Good oral and written communication skills in Hindi and English languages.

●     Ability to work independently and with cross cultural teams including field teams.

●     Problem solving attitude and ability to multitask.

●     Taking initiative and strong interest in grooming young educators and teachers.

●     M&E skills in for education (desirable)

Important: Candidates should be open to 8-10 days of field travel per month. A few of these travels could be at short notice

Experience: Minimum 10+ years of work experience in the education sector with experience of pre-service and/or in-service teacher education or working in the field of libraries and children’s literature. Programme implementation and management experience on education in government schools /communities would be an added advantage.
