A little bit about who we are
At WOTR, we are committed to tackling the key causes of rural poverty by rejuvenating ecosystems and building the community’s resilience to climate change by enhancing water availability, increasing land and agricultural productivity, diversifying livelihoods, empowering women, and strengthening the health and well-being of vulnerable rural communities.
WOTR brings together practitioners, academics, researchers, trainers, and policy makers to work collaboratively in building the resilience of rural communities. Our partners, including donors and government agencies stand resolutely behind us to effect this.
To date we have worked in 10 states in 5107 villages and impacted 4.95 million people in our 30 years of existence.

Join the Women Empowerment Team at WOTR
At WOTR, the Women Empowerment Team is a passionate team with stellar work that has been quietly working in the villages to form SHGs, reduce drudgery, enable women to run micro-enterprises and effectively promote their interests. Over the years, WOTR has helped form 14,729 SHGs supporting 171,512 women. Join the team and live the “not so ordinary” life.
As Lead – Women Empowerment you will:
- Lead the Team and the Initiative and ensure its expansion and effectiveness across the geographies WOTR is working in.
- Assess and anticipate emergent trends and opportunities and accordingly design and execute programmes/ projects that advance the development and cause of rural women.
- Recruit, mentor, up-skill, enthuse and manage programme staff;
- Supervise and support program and project execution.
- Finalize collaboratively the yearly work plan and budget, oversee its implementation and ensure goals are achieved.
- Cultivate, manage, and deepen relationships with stakeholders and partners, including CSR donors, philanthropies, knowledge institutions and Government to secure required resources.
- Participate in policy dialogues, provide expertise and intellectual leadership on issues related to women’s empowerment.
- Finalize and ensure timely submission of mandated reports (to donors and the management) meeting required standards.
- Identify and document best practices and lessons learned.
Apply if you have:
- A strong desire to transform the lives of poor rural women decisively, systemically and sustainably at scale.
- A master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, management, human rights, gender/women’s studies.
- A proven track record and at least 8 years of field experience (of which at least 4 are at leadership/managerial level) in designing, implementing and monitoring women’s empowerment, income generating and market access projects/programs.
- Strong time management skills and adherence to deadlines.
- Excellent networking and interpersonal skills that facilitate strong relationships with colleagues and different stakeholders.
- Good mentoring and team building skills that foster innovation, creativity, risk-taking and leadership in the team.
- Good analytical and communication skills.
- Comfort with speaking and writing in Hindi and English. Knowing Marathi will be an advantage
