**Job Summary:**

 

The Literacy Facilitator (LF) will support and coach teachers, librarians, and principals in Room to Read’s literacy program schools.  The LF will help educators adopt new methods to improve children’s literacy skills and reading habits.  This role reports to the Literacy Program Officer/Associate and involves daily school visits and collaboration with government resources.

 

**Responsibilities:**

 

* Develop a thorough understanding and ensure adherence to Room to Read’s Literacy program design.

* Provide feedback on program design and implementation, offering solution-oriented approaches.

* Serve as a technical resource for schools in language development, literacy skills, and reading.

* Conduct daily school visits (except for official travel and leave), observing and coaching Grade 1 and 2 teachers in literacy instruction.

* Conduct informal assessments of students and discuss findings with teachers, reporting to supervisors.

* Coach teachers and librarians in implementing library programs and management practices.

* Support teachers in student assessment and corrective action planning.

* Collect data on program quality.

* Assist school librarians with library setup and management.

* Regularly update principals on progress and coach them on supporting teachers for long-term literacy outcomes.

* Participate in school meetings, literacy events, and community activities.

* Facilitate teacher and librarian trainings.

* Participate in the development of training materials and resources.

* Attend professional development trainings and workshops.

* Attend review meetings and complete programmatic reports.

* Track and report library monitoring data.

* Conduct planning, documentation, and reporting.

* Write monthly reports to supervisors.

* Document best practices and lessons learned.

* Collaborate on sustainability plans for literacy programs.

* Support donor visits and other organizational activities.

* Compile and analyze reading skill assessment data and plan corrective actions.

 

 

**Qualifications:**

 

* Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Sciences, or equivalent.

* 1-2 years of relevant experience in development projects, preferably in education.

* Primary level teaching experience preferred.

* Strong knowledge of education, language, and reading practices.

* Strong written and oral communication skills.

* Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork abilities.
