The purpose of the ‘Deputy Manager-Climate Change’ is to support DRFs work in the areas of climate action and the development and implementation of its climate action program – Action for Climate and Environment (ACE).
The person will be instrumental in developing the strategy and implementing the program on climate action across different locations under different strategic components. Leveraging on DRF’s experiences and current expertise, the person will be responsible for coordinating DRF’s efforts to carve out a niche and make significant, reputable and high impactful contributions to the national agenda for climate change adaptation and mitigation in the agricultural and environmental sectors. The jobholder is also responsible to mainstream climate change adaptation into DRF’s agriculture projects and programs.
S/he will play lead role in supporting the field team to implement the program and achieve the set goals, capacity building of staff, coordination with key stakeholders and partners, carry out various program related surveys, Audits and studies and give strategic inputs to the leadership team on fine-tuning the program strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
i. Responsible for planning, coordinating and monitoring the activities during the preparation and implementation phase of the project;
ii. Develop and implement work plan and operations strategy, monitor activities of the Project and ensure accurate and timely reporting to management
iii. Ensure 100% delivery against planned project results in the work plan. Closely track slippage against work plan and take corrective action;
iv. Commission activities like research studies, field level assessments, training workshops etc. and manage the other operational aspects of procurement, logistics etc. in coordination with designated department;
v. Foster partnerships with key government and relevant technical institutions working on climate change issues;
vi. Identify capacity development needs of implementing agency/ team and arrange for necessary trainings. Facilitate technical assistance/support for project in all relevant areas as appropriate;
vii. Undertake field visits to track progress made in implementation of the project and take corrective action as required;
viii. Coordination with external evaluation consultants, data auditors, to conduct surveys, data audits, and evaluation studies
ix. Review quality and consistency of reports and deliverables by team/ partner institutions/ responsible parties including financial reports
x. Regular financial management and reporting as per the organisation’s financial guidelines; Ensure effective financial management and reporting as per the organisation’s financial guidelines;
xi. Facilitate and participate in the periodic review meetings and discussions related to project implementation, monitoring and follow-up;
xii. Supervise the work of team members or consultants, as may be recruited under the Project;
xiii. Implement feedback mechanism for continuous improvement of the project performance
xiv. Represent and promote organization on different platforms so as to foster the development of new and strategic partnerships and ensure the organization’s alignment with the global climate change agenda
xv. Monitor and disseminate emerging best practices on climate change adaptation and mitigation, relevant scientific research developments, particularly as they affect or address environment, ecosystems and vulnerable people and their livelihoods in the regions where DRF is present.
xvi. Develop proposals for Climate action team for external stakeholders.
Education:
i. Masters’ Degree (Preferably in Climate Science & Policy / Natural Resources Management/ Environmental Science/ Agriculture)
The Deputy Manager-Climate change should have good understanding of climate change issues, with adequate experience of practical situations in India. S/he needs to be well conversant with the available knowledge on issues related to climate change impacts and adaptation for different sectors:
Essential:
· At least 5 years of Program/project management experience;
· At least 3 years of relevant post Masters Experience at the national level on climate change and related programs;
· Outstanding communication, project management and organizational skills.
