Job Opportunity for Manager (Climate Change) at Aga Khan Rural Support Programme in Sayla

Location: Sayla, Surendranagar, Gujarat

Education: Masters-level qualifications in the field of agriculture, climate change, natural resource management, environmental science, or closely related fields

Experience: 3-4 years of work experience in agriculture, climate change, natural resource management, environmental management, or closely related fields would be an advantage.

Skills & Competencies required

• Demonstrated ability to work with and influence key stakeholders on agriculture and climate change agenda.
• Strong operational knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint, along with other computer applications.
• Knowledge of collection and management of primary and secondary data.
• Strong analytical skills, to analyse field data in relation to climate perspective.
• Good communication, writing, and presentation skills.
• Good interpersonal, networking, and communication skills.

Language Proficiency: Reading, writing, and speaking proficiency in Hindi and English. Proficiency in Gujarati would be desired.
 
Job Profile

• Project Implementation and Management: Lead, train, manage, and support Project Unit (PU) team on best practices for sustainable agriculture, natural resource management, and decent work.
• Coordinating and communicating with the PU team and Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) India Implementation Team.
• Conducting IP Readiness checks and PU support visits and support in reporting to BCI Implementation Team.
• Understand climate change impacts and adaptations with a focus on agriculture, particularly cotton, and sustainable agriculture-based livelihood.
• Review climate risks on agriculture, particularly cotton.
• Develop a climate change risk management strategy to develop climate-resilient agriculture, particularly cotton.
• Identify best practices for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction in cotton farming and scaling-up plan for climate change mitigation in the agriculture sector.
• Prepare a project implementation plan in relation to climate change adaptation and mitigation as per the requirement of the project and organisation.
• Enhance capacity building of staff and community on the role of climate change in agriculture and agriculture livelihood.
• Provide support to the PU team on natural resource mapping – water, soil, biodiversity – in the project area conducted by the PU team, and interventions identified to manage and restore these resources are implemented effectively.
• Establish bio-input centres to promote chemical-free farming in the project area.
• Capacity building of PU team on sustainable agriculture, natural resource management, and decent work.
• Regularly review the progress of the BCI plan prepared by the PU team and reported to BCI.
• Develop communication materials in relation to climate change in agriculture.
• Participate in all training given by BCI and cascading with the PU team.
• Provide any other support to the project as and when required.
• Stakeholder Management: Identify, engage, and collaborate effectively with Research Institutes,
• Agricultural Universities, Government, IIFCO, GSFC, and other NGOs, who can support the PU in project implementation.
• Identify relevant stakeholders to collaborate with, to ensure that the BCI Principle of Biodiversity,
• Soil Water Stewardship, and Crop protection is implemented in the Project area.
• Monitoring & Evaluation: Leading the monitoring and evaluation of project activities for impact assessment, submitting progress reports to the donor as per timeline.
