The Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation (KSCF), set up by Nobel Peace Laureate, Mr. Kailash Satyarthi, is a global thought leader for prevention of exploitation and violence against children. KSCF works for the creation of a child-friendly world through direct interventions and programmes, research and capacity building, and campaigns for the mobilization of mass support and behaviour change. Mr. Satyarthi’s lessons learned guide the Foundation’s work to engage children and youth as part of the solution, build greater collaboration between governments, business and communities, ensure effective national and international laws, scale know-how and successful practice and create partnerships with key stakeholders.

Job purpose

The Manager Finance is responsible for all Managerial functions and has overall responsibility for the smooth running and accountability relating to the accounts payable, payroll, grant report entry, helping and creating organizational and program budgets in consultation with the Finance Head and Executive Director of the respective program.

Job Description

The role will entail and not be restricted to the following responsibilities:

Finance Management

  • Ensure compliance with government regulations, including those covering FCRA and statutory annual audit.
  • Responsible for developing an MIS suitable for maintaining KSCF accounts, and for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.
  • Implementation of effective internal controls such as maintenance of the internal expenditures control system.
  • Examine financial and legal documents to verify accuracy and adherence to financial regulations and acceptable financial principles.
  • Build new and monitor/maintain existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for closing, reconciling the task items and other general departmental accounting tasks.

Compliance Management

  • Ensure organization’s statutory requirements, obligations and objectives are achieved within its delivery timelines.
  • Ensure all regulatory issues are resolved on time, within budget, to ensure the safety of customers, members, colleagues and contractors.
  • Ensure effective data management systems, policies, processes and programs to provide assurance of ongoing statutory and regulatory compliance and delivery within budgets.
  • Ensure that compliance issues/concerns within the organization are being appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved.

Financial Control

  • Ensure that rigorous financial control is applies throughout all KSCF operations, including partners and branches, ensuring that appropriate policies, financial controls and procedures are in place to control expenditure and income.
  • Ensure financial policy, systems and guidelines are disseminated, understood and adhered to by all units.
  • Ensure the accuracy and relevance of the financial records.
  • Monitor performance of any investments and cash deposits and ensure that KSCF has adequate cash to meets its in-going commitments.
  • Keep all financial systems under regular review to ensure the effective use of the available tools.
  • Document and improve financial processes where appropriate to ensure effective use of resources and best practice.
  • Ensure appropriate and effective controls operate over all material and financial assets of all entities of the organization.

Statutory Accounts

  • Prepare the annual statutory accounts ensuring they meet all statutory and best practice accounting requirements.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and ensure the audit and statutory accounts are completed in an efficient and timely manner and filed with the authorities on a timely basis.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations, including completion of all tax returns.

Direct Units and Partners

  • Advice, support and train the finance staff of the direct and partner units of KSCF India.
  • Manage the internal audit of financial controls of the KSCF’s units and partners.
  • Ensure adequate financial monitoring of units and partners, including reviewing of budgets and quarterly financial reporting.
  • Assist in the set-up of new partnership agreements and units.
  • Document and improve financial processes of the KSCF’s units and partners to ensure the effective use of resources and best practice.

Management information

  • Manage all aspects of management reporting within the organization and ensure accurate, timely and appropriate information, including management accounts, is delivered by the Finance Team.
  • Manage the annual budget process including preparation of the budget pack.
  • Prepare financial information to the Senior Management Team.
  • Provide regular forecasts of income and expenditure to Manager Finance & Administration.
  • Provide advice to other departments on financial and tax issues.
  • Provide ad-hoc management information to assist decision making.

People Management

  • Management of the finance team as the line manager.
  • Ensure finance staff performs their functions efficiently and effectively, fully complying with the KSCF’s systems for recruitment, job descriptions, work planning and supervision, appraisals, performance reviews and learning and development.

General Administration

  • Improve processes and policies in support of organizational vision, mission and goals; monitor adherence to rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Help implement departmental and organizational policies and procedures to maximize efficiency and productivity using appropriate metrics.
  • Monitor, manage, and improve the efficiency of support services by streamlining processes and systems across accounts and finance, compliances and IT department.

Education, Experience and Exposure

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant with over 5 years of work experience and/or Full time MBA (Finance) with minimum of 10 Years of overall experience in a similar position and/or experience with financial analysis, business operations, project and program management within development sector.
  • Proven financial planning experience at the management level.
  • Knowledge of risk, controls and compliance.

Skill & Competencies

  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly motivated individual with excellent problem-solving skills, highly enterprising with excellent negotiation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and perform under tight timelines.
  • Able to work and deliver under minimal supervision/independently with attention to detail.
