Position Overview:

The Manager of Information Technology will coordinate and manage Room to Read’s IT operations, projects, proposals, and strategic product portfolio. This role will be responsible for managing planned and unplanned technology-based operational needs, and monitoring the same as part of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practices with staff located in 22 countries.

The IT Manager will report to the Director of Information Technology who is responsible for overall governance and strategy for IT in Room to Read. Together, the Manager and Director will collaborate on the co-development of IT worldwide policy and procedural guidance.

Room to Read offers the option to work fully remote, hybrid, or daily on-site at a local office. Must be located in the US or India.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manages the development and implementation projects and processes in support of Room to Read objectives
  • Design and implement the IT policy framework, and set standards and methods for ongoing IT policy management
  • Coordinate the implementation of the long-range digital roadmap, shepherding initiatives and projects forward
  • Facilitate a network of worldwide country-based IT managers, tracking budget adherence and strategic ideas and needs, formulating information to bring forward for decision making, putting ideas forward to capitalize on economies of scale
  • Facilitate a network of strategic IT product developers, to guide and coach on technical aspects (although each has technical resources embedded in their projects)
  • Lead enterprise technical projects related to platforms and central solutions, ensure basic technical needs are met
  • Generate ideas in line with trends in technology that would benefit Room to Read (e.g. collaboration applications, enhanced virtual conference capabilities)
  • Establish efficiency and efficacy standards, providing recommendations for improvement of IT infrastructure
  • Analyze IT infrastructure and systems performance to assess operating costs, productivity levels, upgrade requirements, and other metrics and needs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned 

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of related IT experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Thorough understanding of IT and practical applications to support the Room to Read’s goals
  • Strong understanding of data privacy best practices and requirements
  • Background with cloud, hybrid, and on-premises system administration best practices
  • Networking (firewalls, routers, switches) experience (Ex: Cisco Meraki network solutions)
  • Web (DNS, SSL, domain registry) experience
  • MS Office Suite/MS Azure
  • Familiarity with the following preferred:
    • Okta
    • Workday
    • Cloudelligent
    • AWS Cloud management
    • SHI/Maintech
  • System Architecture or comparable principles preferred
  • A Systems Thinking design approach desirable
  • Security certification preferred
  • Salesforce experience preferred
  • Experience in Higher Education and non-profit processes desirable
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into business ideas
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and takes initiative
  • Able to multi-task, be flexible and perform in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
