• Udhyam Vyapaar focuses on nano businesses in India, and solving large problems faced by them, at scale; having already enabled up to a 27% income uplift for 5000+ entrepreneurs.

Position Overview

As we enter our 7th year of operations, Udhyam is looking for a passionate and experienced individual leader to provide strategic direction,drive research, monitoring and evaluation and foster a culture of data based decision making and action on insights. With robust data being collected to assess the efficacy of our various large scale programs, the focus now is to leverage technology to bring in standardisation and efficiency in monitoring systems and drive focus towards nuanced impact and program evaluations factoring in intra,inter and cross project learnings. The person will establish a sound base for ongoing internal and external research focused on key hypotheses for the programs around pedagogy, long term outcomes and impact. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in educational research, program evaluation, and data analysis, as well as excellent leadership, problem solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

Monitoring & Evaluation

Design and implement MEL frameworks for Shiksha overall, in collaboration with leadership
Identify emerging needs as well as gaps and accordingly develop metrics, methodologies and new tools/ scales for the same
Frame program level hypotheses and strategic questions and evaluate the findings along with inter-intra project comparisons to enable cross project learning and improvements in program design and delivery
Build network with thought leaders/M&E specialists from other organisations, researchers, and academic institutions to learn, share knowledge and partner for collaborative work
Manage the M&E team, including mentoring the team and co-work to achieve the set goals and play an active role in their coaching and professional development
Create and deploy simple processes for working with internal stakeholders including curriculum, project teams, technology etc.
Meaningfully engage in field activities to deepen understanding of our work
Lead and contribute to research studies to generate evidence-based insights .
Design and implement external impact evaluations to assess the long-term outcomes and effectiveness of educational interventions..

Research Strategy and Leadership

Conceptualise the research strategy, goals and deliverables
Enable and manage research collaborations with leading organisations to augment the scope and depth of research
Conceptualise and write research papers, book chapter contributions, working papers and reports based on Udhyam’s data.
Manage quantitative and qualitative data collection from the field
Be a thought leader & enable thought leadership for others at Udhyam by disseminating research findings and presenting our research work at various academic and social research forums
Write research grants to attract funding towards Udhyams research projects
Partner with and onboard relevant research networks and publication houses for publications.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

15+ years of experience, with at least 5+ years in research, monitoring & evaluation, research (preferably in education)
High bar of excellence for self & team
Strong technical competence in research and monitoring and evaluation methods.
Strong operational management ability: a clear focus on results – sets goals, plans and priorities effectively, monitors quality and progress of work against plans
Have a problem solving approach, Loves data and drawing insights, data triangulations and connecting the dots to draw meaningful insights
Knowledge of essential statistical principles and methods needed for research design
Strong analytical skills – strategic, quantitative and qualitative
Experience in leading a team towards ambitious goals
Comfortable with technological applications,statistical software and tools to conduct advanced data analysis etc.
