Job Description

Jhpiego is hiring for the position of National Program Officer- Nutrition, as the lead position in the project, who will be responsible to provide support to Program Officers, located regionally to support capacity building initiative of SENU project in partnership with MoWCD. The program is aimed to improving the capacity of the ICDS workforce on various parameters across sected 10 Utkarsh districts.

This position requires managerial expertise, public health experience, strong managing and coordination skills, understanding of Indian public health system and ability to develop positive, professional working relationships with various government counterparts and other development partners. This position will reports to Senior Advisor.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Advisor to develop strategies for project implementation in the selected intervention states, monitoring project activities and coordination with donors, development partners and other stakeholders.
  • Work closely with national and state teams to develop annual work plan for projects and provide support in implementation and monitoring of project activities as per agreed plan and timelines.
  • Backstop project officers, placed regionaly in providing technical assistance, State Government officials and provide handholding support and build capacity of project teams in implementation to achieve project goals.
  • Meet regularly with MoWCD officials, state Government/Department of Social Welfare officials,
  • Health Sector Skilling Council etc., for smooth management of the capacity builing projects and respond to the requests in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate development of financial proposals jointly with state officials for incorporation in the state’s NHM Program Implementation plan (PIP).
  • Coordinate with state teams to ensure timely and quality state, donor and HQ reporting.
  • Backstop and guide the program team to develop and produce documents like situation analysis reports, assessment reports, success stories, gap analysis plans, procurement plans etc. as per the program need and local context.
  • Facilitate documentation of the project results, successes, challenges and lessons learned.
  • Work with Research team in development of research proposals, scientific papers and submissions to international and national conferences.
  • Work with Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team to establish systems for tracking progress, indicators and deliverables according to agreed work-plans to ensure state and donor requirements are met.
  • Represent Jhpiego at national and state-level meetings involving government and development partners.
  • Frequent travel to the state and districts as per the project’s requirement.
  • Perform other activities, as assigned by the supervisor to achieve organizational goals.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Ability to work with a diverse technical team.
  • Ability to develop productive working relationships with other agencies, stakeholders and other organizations including government counterparts.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English and Hindi.
  • Proficiency in writing technical and programmatic documents such as training materials and reports.
  • Ability to handle a variety of assignments under pressure of deadlines.
  • Proficiency in computers – Microsoft Office.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50 % of his/her time.

Qualifications/Knowledge and Experience:

  • Masters in Public Health/ Community Medicine/ MSW/ Rural Management or equivalent.
  • More than 7 years of overall experience including working on Nutrition programs.
  • Technical knowledge and field experience in Nutrition programs prefered.
  • Knowledge of grant proposal writing and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of Indian Public health system, key stakeholders and relevant government. policies/strategies particularly MoWCD
  • Preferably experience of working at national level with Ministry of Women and Child Development.
