The UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) is UNESCO’s first education-related category 1 institute in the Asia and the Pacific region towards the development and promotion of new approaches to education for a more peaceful and sustainable world. The Institute is a globally regarded center of excellence for research and implementation of Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL) through innovative digital pedagogies empowered by Artificial Intelligence.

Under the overall authority and direct supervision of the Director of the Institute, the incumbent will serve as the Chief Information Technology Officer and a member of the Institute’s Senior Management Team to develop and support the MGIEP Digital Technology Strategy to achieve the Institute’s goals.  

Duties and Responsibilities 

Working within the framework of the Institute’s programmes and budget and in liaison with the UNESCO Headquarters Digital Business Solutions (DBS) unit, the incumbent will contribute to the development, implementation, and reporting on the MGIEP Digital Technology Strategy encompassing: 

  • Digital pedagogies enhanced by Artificial Intelligence (AI) for social and emotional learning.
    The UNESCO MGIEP FramerSpace Learning Management System (framerspace.com).
    Product and technology roadmap for FramerSpace.
  • AI-in-Education roadmap and implementation for personalised learning experiences on FramerSpace.
  • Managing licenses for specialized and generic Office-suite software applications.
  • Hardware, networking, operating and security systems.
  • Strategy encompassing the institute’s other digital products (e.g. Emordle.com). 

The incumbent will carry out the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and report on the MGIEP Technology Strategy positioning and representing MGIEP as a globally regarded leader in AI-enhanced digital pedagogies for SEL presenting a dynamic architecture responsive to technology advancements. 
  • Working with the MGIEP Programme Teams and external course developers, assume full responsibility for the strategic and technical enhancement of FramerSpace including business development and partnerships for significantly increasing the number of course developers and learners, compatibility with 3rd party add-ons, technical support, device independence, overseeing analytics for the platform, and providing information, advice, and training to external course developers.
  • Working with MGIEP Programme and Communications Teams, assume full responsibility for the research and recommendation, implementation, license management, training, and technical  support for various specialized software applications including website & LMS hosting, project  management, time-management, social media analytics, graphics, video editing, digital games;
  • Provide technical guidance for the implementation and updates of generic Office Suite software, hardware, networking, back-end security, virus protection, and operating system updates;
  • Supervise all phases of technology projects, from the development of Terms of Reference specifications, working with the MGIEP programme and Procurement Team for Requests for Quotes and Proposals,  selection, installation and implementation, monitoring and support, serving as the MGIEP point of contact for external partners, vendors, and consultants and ensuring all project, planning, and execution project are completed within budget in a timely manner, and in line with the Project  Management Institute (PMI) standards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Advanced University degree (master’s or equivalent) in Information and Communication Technologies, Educational Technology, Computer Science, or related fields.

Work Experience

  • Minimum four (4) years of relevant work experience in projects related to artificial intelligence in education.
  • Experience with large-scale procurement.

Languages

Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Ph.D degree in Information and Communication Technologies, Educational Technology, Computer Science, or related fields.

Language

Knowledge of another official UNESCO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish)
