History: Inspired by the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, and equipped by their medical training in India, and subsequently, training in public health and research at the Johns Hopkins University, the doctor couple Abhay and Rani Bang, founded Society for Education, Action and Research in Community Health (SEARCH) in 1986. SEARCH is an Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) working in the poorest, semitribal district, Gadchiroli, in the state of Maharashtra, (India), 1000 km away from Mumbai.

Vision: SEARCH’s vision is ‘Aarogya-Swaraj’ which means ‘People’s Health in People’s hands’, by empowering individuals and communities to take charge of their own health, and thereby, help themachieve freedom from disease as well as dependence

Mission: Mission of SEARCH is service, training, empowerment and research in health of the communities as expressed in its name.

Headquarter: Of SEARCH is ‘Shodhgram’, located 17 km from the district headquarter of the Gadchiroli district. The campus, spread over 47 Acres, is modeled over a mix of Gandhian Ashram, tribal village and modern facilities. It has more than 80 buildings including hospital, research center, training centers, training hostels, library, administrative offices, guest houses, tribal museum, community centers, mess cum dining facilities, residential facilities for 120 staff, solar plant, gym, playgrounds, walking track, organic farm and two lakes.

With a team of 150 + professionals and 150 + Community Health Workers, and presence in Gadchiroli, SEARCH has emerged as one of the most reputed and credible grass roots service and research organization in India making important breakthroughs in the public health problems of India and globally over past 36 years.

Hospital of SEARCH:

1) 120 Bed Hospital providing care to 55,000+ patient annually from 2500 villages.

2) OPD –

Regular: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Infertility, Psychiatry & Mental Health including Addiction, Learning Disability, General Medicine & Pediatrics, Neurology, Diabetology, Physiotherapy, Musculoskeletal

Special: Spine Care, Pain clinic, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, Joint Care, ENT

3) Surgical Specialties – Spine Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, ENT Surgeries, Laparoscopy, Thyroid Surgeries, Gynecology, General Surgery, Gastro-surgery, Urology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Endoscopy. Annually ~700 surgeries.

4) Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Unit

5) Para-clinical Services – Counselling, Psychometric tests, Hematology, Biochemistry, ECG, Blood Storage Unit, Digital X-ray, USG

6) IPD – ICU, Casualty, General Medical and Surgical Disciplines including infectious, emergency, simple trauma, pediatrics, MTP, snake bites, pneumonia, Detoxification and psychiatry unit

7) Regular AV and In person health education programs

Job Specifications:

1) Position: Nursing Superintendent

2) Location: Shodhgram, Campus of SEARCH in Gadchiroli district

3) Reporting to: Co-Director, SEARCH

Job Description –

A) Resident Medical Officer:

1) Supervising all Nurses administratively.

2) Ensuring development and implementation of good nursing protocols in the Hospital.

3) Ensuring quality patient care in the OPD (55,000 patients annually) and Indoor (2000 Admissions annually) of the Hospital.

4) Planning and smooth functioning of the Operation Camps (600 Major Surgeries every year).

5) Training and capacity building of Nurses and Nursing Assistants.

6) Assisting in Hospital Administration including purchasing, inventory management, CSSD, Store, Operation Theater and other allied services.

7) Participating in other activities of SEARCH as required.

Candidate Profile:

• BSc Nursing with minimum 3 Years of work experience OR

• GNM with minimum 5 years of work experience in reputed Hospital

• Experience of Nursing Training and Supervision

• Experience of Assisting in Hospital Nursing Administration

• Share the values of SEARCH.

• Strong desire to serve people.

• Willingness to work long term in Gadchiroli

• Proficiency in using MS Office and other relevant software on computer.

• Minimum Commitment of 3 years.
