Generation Unlimited is a new global partnership that aims to ensure that every young person agaged0-24 is in some form of school, learning, training, or employment by 2030. Generation Unlimited brings together public and private partners – and young people – to identify and scale solutions related to a) skills for learning, employability, and decent work; b) access to economic opportunities and c) empowerment and participation, with a focus on girls and marginalized groups. It aims to unlock investments and empower all young people to play a positive role in their societies, create synergies between prominent global actors and accelerate momentum towards achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
In India, Gen-U signified catalytic partnerships to unleash the potential of adolescents and young people and was launched as YuWaah in November 2019. It has a unique position to approach education, skilling, employability, and economic opportunities (including jobs &
entrepreneurship), empowerment, and participation especially of girls as a continuum.
With Gen-U, UNICEF India, and a diverse group of stakeholders from public, private, and civic spheres – including young people – will develop a partnership to scale up programmes, identify new solutions and support systems that deliver results for adolescents and young people, unlock investments, and unleash the voice and participation of young people in shaping a brighter future.
A governance structure for YuWaah in India has been set up in the above context. This is made up of the Board, which will provide strategic direction, oversee the partnership and mobilizing knowledge, resources and leadership and the Secretariat is responsible for planning, young people’s participation, investment and programme support, communication and advocacy and operations.
The Partnerships and Fundraising Specialist (YuWaah) will support and strengthen YuWaah as a Public-Private-Youth Partnership, which seeks to improve socio-economic outcomes for youth by organising cross-sector groups of partners to transform the ecosystem. YuWaah has more than 100 partners – including Central and State Governments, Private Sector companies, industry associations, UN agencies, Civil society organisations and most importantly, young people (10-24 years). It brings together and scales up initiatives from across partner spectrum, to increase their reach and impact for the more significant benefit of young people.
The purpose for the job
The purpose of the Partnerships team within YuWaah is to
- Drive incomes through existing and new partners,
- Manage existing partnerships and strengthen engagement
- support the Governance structure of YuWaah including the board and leadership council,
- Support partnerships that enable the goals of YuWaah with a focus on private sector and its convergence with Government and partners.
The Partnership Specialist will also work towards enabling key outputs of YuWaah, such as:
- Ensuring diversity of multi-stakeholders Partners onboarded on the YuWaah platform with a commitment to YuWaah’s Mandate
- Catalyse opportunities for multi-partner strategic engagements and events that promote collaborations and co-creation among partners with the involvement of young people
- Lead fundraising efforts for YuWaah, both for YuWaah secretariat and YuWaah Partners, to enable YuWaah as a self-sustaining platform in the long run
- Identify and generate opportunities for leveraging non-monetary resources from YuWaah partners for YuWaah digital platforms, YuWaah secretariat and YuWaah Solution Partners
Additionally, the Partnership Specialist will work closely with Resource Mobilisation Section to ensure end-to-end operationalization.
Under the direct supervision of the Chief – GenU, this post will manage critical partners to enhance results for young people and ensure the sustainability of YuWaah as a partnerships platform.
Summary Of Key Functions/accountabilities
- Develop and implement annual partnership engagement and resource mobilization plans for YuWaah
- Grow strategic long-term, flexible income through partners and board members to sustain YuWaah as a platform
- Leading management of existing YuWaah partnerships (both local and global) with support from the Secretariat to enhance the engagement with partners, including reporting, their participation in governance and co-creation at YuWaah
- Support the management of the board and leadership council at YuWaah
- Support advocacy efforts of YuWaah with a particular focus on the private sector
- Establish and manage partnerships that can help leverage funds for enhancing the goals of YuWaah
- Provide inputs into partnerships plans and strategy for YuWaah
- Report on progress basis timelines linked to donor reports and any other national or global reporting requirements
- Establish programmatic and strategic relationships with existing and potential partners and stakeholders by overseeing YuWaah’s work with Solution Partners
- Serve as the focal between YuWaah and UNICEF Resource Mobilisation section
Education
An Advanced (Master’s) University degree in international development or social sciences or any other relevant field.
Experience
At least five years of practical professional work experience with progressively increasing responsibilities in the development sector, focusing on partnerships and fundraising. Prior knowledge of working with the UN is desirable.
Language Requirements
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

This position is based in New Delhi (India). The vacancy is open to internal and external candidates.
