About us:

The India Climate Collaborative (ICC), registered as ‘Council of Philanthropies for Climate Action’ (CPCA), is a collective working to identify critical sectors that need investment, drive funding towards climate solutions, and enable private and corporate philanthropy to engage more effectively with climate action. We work closely with the climate ecosystem, including research organisations, implementers, government stakeholders, businesses, and more, as well as engage with our domestic and international donor base to ensure that funding flows towards high-impact climate solutions. We were founded by some of India’s pre-eminent corporate and philanthropic leaders, including Rohini Nilekani, Ratan Tata, Anand Mahindra, Nadir Godrej, and others.

Our team is a small, tight‐knit group driven by a shared passion for achieving the ICC’s mission and vision. An ideal addition to our team is a self-starter, always willing to roll up their sleeves and get stuff done. We prefer candidates with a good eye for detail, commitment to a high quality of output, and a team-centric mindset.

Role: 

Over the next three years, ICC aims to become an important convenor of key actors on a significant global climate platforms eg. COP that enable and to streghten India’s investment readiness to attract the finance India needs to meet its climate goals. Our efforts will not only be focused on COP, but the momentum this milestone helps generate through the year both domestically and at other global platforms. In this process, we also aim to facilitate learning exchanges of best practices between Indian NPS from other key economies. The Policy and Strategic Initiatives Lead will be responsible for overseeing the multi-year engagement, leading all aspects of program planning, management and delivery, partnership building and stakeholder management.

This role will report to the Head – Programs, and will have the following responsibilities:

Strategy, planning and coordination (40%)

• Shape and execute the ICC strategy to deliver on the goals and objectives of the 3-year grant. Refining key activities, milestones, budgets, and timelines etc.

• Develop strategies to engage the Indian climate community and showcase India’s leadership at global fora.

• Leverage key networks to design and enable relevant engagement opportunities such as roundtables, convening’s, bilateral or multilateral exchanges.

• Lead the coordination of logistics in the run up to and during the event.

• Ensure timely delivery of program targets and planned convening’s and engagements.

• Work cross-functionally across the organization’s verticals to coordinate where resources are required and how they’re being utilized.

Engaging with climate community, policy and processes (30%)

• Be well informed about important climate negotiations, commitments, processes and progress at both the national and international levels.

• Represent and build the ICC brand by engaging at external fora, events and engagements.

• Build and disseminate organisational knowledge on key policy updates domestically and internationally to enable thought leadership with the ICC.

Key Stakeholder Engagement (30%)

• Manage donor relationships and reporting on milestones and achievements across as required

• Building linkages with and leveraging relationships with government actors at both the national and sub-national levels.

• Develop relations with strategic partners in other key economies such as Brazil, Indonesia, South Africa etc. to facilitate building of coalitions and alliances for knowledge and learning exchange on relevant climate issues

• Identify, curate and manage a cohort of domestic climate experts across sectors who can consult and advise ICC and/or ICC leaders and partners on key topics.

• Managing Coalition partner relationships, roles and deliverables

Key criteria for selection:

• 10-15 years of experience in the climate sector, across not for profits, consulting, or international development. Experience working at/with multi-lateral agencies or in policy will be quite critical.

• A high-level understanding of climate issues, climate policies and strong familiarity with national and international climate organisations and processes.

• Strong interpersonal skills, and experience in partner management and building relationships with diverse stakeholders.

• Previous experience building strategies, managing teams, coordinating multi-stakeholder partnerships and leading complex projects is critical.

• Experience in planning, curating, designing and execution events, strategic engagements, convenings is a plus.

• Comfortable working with minimum supervision, and able to manage competing deadlines.

• Ability to research and process information from multiple sources, and compile and articulate in a presentable manner.

• Flexible and comfortable managing some level of ambiguity and dealing with uncertainty.

• Willing to fill in the gaps where necessary and to support where required

• Familiar and comfortable with start-up work culture. Strong ethical leadership and commitment to the core values of the organization

• Passionate about climate action and ICC’s theory of change.

Additional criteria (preferred, not mandatory)

• Prior experience in international climate policy, engaging with the government, academic institutions, civil society organizations and industry in India.

• Existing foundation and donor networks, and experience in fundraising for a non-profit

• Networks with International climate organisation

Terms of employment:

Location: Delhi (preferred) or Mumbai

Employment type: Consultant

Engagement duration: Annual contracts over a period of 3 years (aligned with the grant period) with a strong possibility of extension.
